1B880971-2DBA-4FC2-840B-0E4549EF4CCE.jpeg I have finally finished my sten “retro tactical” build. My goal in this project was to create a modern day style of PCC with only things available during WW2. I picked a sten because I’ve always found them quite interesting. I used an Indianapolis semi auto kit (I’m still trying to figure out the spring situation, the directions are not very good and the given spring length is not correct). The sight is actually a period correct sight. I figured with the way that small arms are advancing today with adding reflex/red dot sights and scopes to everything, it would be neat to add one to an older sub gun. The reflex is called the Nydar sight. They were first released in 1945 (right at the end of WW2). It was sold as a shotgun sight. The ring is supposed to be the pattern of shot at 25 yards. I used rare earth magnets to attach it to the receiver. I didn’t want to make it a permanent attachment so this was a good middle ground. It actually stays on pretty tight. There are holes in the bottom base so I bought two magnets that fit perfectly into those two holes. The curvature of the base almost perfectly fits the curvature of the sten tube. I plan on building a crate for it in the future.

Looks like a mark2 rifle.
My springs took a while to get right on my mark5 pistol build. I wanted it to handle everything from stupid hot 147gr 9mm major loads down to subsonic 115gr powder puffs and set off 9mm loaded with rifle primers.
I cheated and used an industrial hydraulic buffer.

Many years ago I shot a Sten---the first full auto I ever fired---seems I remember it taking 10 minutes to load the stick mag and 10 seconds to empty it.
Yes the mags are a pain to load. Double stacks single feeds are almost impossible to load without a tool

I had a couple of PPS43 semi-auto outfits that I intended to make into a suppressed SBR.

I was seriously jazzed about the concept but could not shake the accuracy out of one to justify the time and expense.

I never thought about a Sten/Sterling.

Todd.

A common misconception -- as seen in many movies -- is that the Sten would be grasped by the magazine. The proper way to hold it is by the shroud around the barrel. The magazine can then ride in the crook of the left arm.
