Last year I talked with Stephan Fowler about building me a large dagger to sort of match the 11" S guard Bowie he made me. I mentioned I'd like to have it for my birthday the end of march. Well his wife had a baby an other stuff came up but low and behold he came up with a 13" Confederate Bowie idea for me. We have been corresponding about details. It started out as a 1 1/4 rod of 1095 he put into a press. Now it is beaten into a 2" wide at the hilt 1/4" thick in the center awesome piece of work. He has put up some U tubes to show the steps:

Very nice..

Sidebar....other day the girlfriend made me watch what is probably the worst movie ever made, "Bram Stoker's Dracula", and I learned from Anthony Hopkins's character that it's called a "Boh-Wee" knife, not a "Booo-wee" knife as I had thought.

Having these series of videos of your knife being made is an outstanding extra. Stephen is the first bladesmith that I've seen go to this much trouble to show the entire process from start to finish in the making of an actual customer's knife. Plenty of instructional videos out there from makers, but not using a customer's blade in the process. Just too much to go wrong. Pretty gutsy.

"the worst movie ever made, "Bram Stoker's Dracula""

Doc, you must be sick! Best scenes are the two young ladies as they romp together. Nice redhead!

Hey everyone,

I plan to polish the blade this weekend and start on the fittings, should be more fun to come

I know you'll just love the polishing videos (sarcasm)

5 hours of finger cramping all packed into a 10 minute video......

seriously though, I love showing anyone who will listen how I make my knives, the videos are just an extension of that.
now if only I could build a decent sized shop and get out of my 1 car garage.
