I recently picked-up a Savage/Stevens 311R Series J, SxS 3" 12ga with 18.25" barrels and oiled walnut stock. S/N is E656428 and each barrel is stamped SP7 at the breach. Does anybody have any experience or info on this model? This one spent the last 20 years or so in a cabinet in a barn. There was a fine layer of surface rust on the barrels and the stock was discolored in bands about 2" wide. It cleaned up nicely, but the barrel bluing is a bit on the thin side. The bores are in excellent condition as is the standing breach face. The previous owner said he never shot it, just kept it in the barn "in case". Any idea on value?

That there is a late model Police gun, the kind NYPD used till middle 90s. I sold one to a friend and it is one nice blaster. It has Cyl. And Cyl choke BTW. Prolly worth a quick $300 in the condition described.

Hey Gordon,
Thanks for the info. I've got a buddy who's a retired NYPD Detective Lt. - I've gotta question him on this one. Again, thanks for the info. BTW, I paid 150 bucks for it, primarily because of the surface rust and the striped stock - all has turned out pretty well with some work, but the light and darker stripes in the stock will take a bit more work - other than that - it resides in my Bedroom closet, it's new home, very handy and well balanced piece.
