Stevens 107B Shotgun disassembly.

I have a really old Stevens 107b that I need to replace the trigger guard on. One screw comes from inside the receiver and threads into the trigger guard. In order to get to this screw all the guts have to be removed first. Does anyone have any tips on how to compress the spring on the hammer in order to get it out?

That was not one of Savage's better ideas; in fact a lot of their ideas were not good ones, possibly one reason the original company went belly up.
