Birdhunter - what you did was very feasible and smart. I just wonder what a $100 trigger and $100 stock on top of say... $300 before you scope - then it is probably cheaper to get the Savage.

Looks like I might pick up another in .223 pretty soon. :D

Awesome groups, and that thing looks sweet with the thumbhole stock. I feel confident enough with mine that I could probably achieve those groups in a couple of tries.

Stevens/Savage has my support 100%

By the time you woudl by a Savage with a thumbhole stock you would be spending more than buying a Steven's and adding a thumbhole stock, that I am convinced of. Of course to get a thumbhole factory on a Savage you'd also get a bull barrel, which would be worth the extra dollars in my opinion.
When I did my trigger work I just kept in the back of my mind that if I can get this to work it cost me a few hours time, if I mess it up I can get an aftermarket trigger for $85.

The way I got mine it was cheap, unless you figure that the Rem 597 I traded in was maybe worth $130 or so, I still look at it as a rifle that cost me $5 that I didn't want.
