How old would a rifle have to be for it to have no Serial Number? I just bought a Stevens .22 bolt action, hand feed, no magazine, from a friend. I started cleaning off the years of crud built up on the barrel, and did not find a SN. No, no marks of one being ground off, this rifle just never came with one on it. Any way to find out a date of mfgr?

Well it would have to have been made before 1968, when serials numbers became mandatory. Are there any other identifying marks? Model/Series would be helpful in determining when it was made(approximately, at least).

There is the model number (cannot remember to save my life right now) and three pat. numbers and dates. It is a real simple design, a barrel with a bolt that slides into the back and a large leaf spring on the bottom that holds the bolt in place and the trigger is nothing more than a lever that lifts the spring to allow the bolt to slam home. Basically, the barrel is the receiver. I'll get some photos and post tomorrow.
Cool thing about it is using Aquila .22's, it is quieter than my sons Daisey Red Rider. All you can hear is the bolt dropping and hear the bullet hit the target.
