Anyone--

I've got a Stevens model 311R Series J 18" SxS and I need to remove the forend. When I take the screw out, the forend will not detatch. I don't want to pry on it and screw up the wood.

Is there some trick I'm missing? Anyone have a solution?

TIA

On all the 311s I've ever seen, the fore end is held on with a spring tension arraingement. The screw just holds the forearm iron to the wood, put it back in there.

Try pulling down on the tip of the fore end, they are usually on snugly. You should be able to detect that it flexes when pulled on, doesn't feel "quite" like it would if it was screwed on. HTH

Some other Stevens/Savage SxS guns have a screw on fore end. You're sure it's a 311, right?
