Saw a Stevens 311 12 gauge in the local shop yesterday. At first glance, I noticed the metal was kind of worn, but the stock looked almost brand new. Then I saw that it had a plastic wood-grained stock. It really looked like wood with a high gloss finish, not too bad looking (as some of these old plastic stocks can be). The asking price was $189.
My question: Anybody have any experience trying to fit one of these with wood replacement stocks? Although the gun looked nice, I can't get past the "feel" of the glossy plastic, but would consider buying it if replacement wood was available, and everything else about it checked out ok.
