A few questions -

Steyr Arms has stopped importing the Steyr M-Series of pistols into the United States and it has been mentioned to me that they have "new" pistol that will be available in .45 ACP, .40 S&W, .357 SIG, and 9mm. Anybody have any info on this?

And pertaining to Para Ordnance, I have heard that:

1. The Para Ordnance guns are manufactured in Canada? Is this true?

2. Supposedly (if the above statement is correct), Para is going to move those manufacturing operations out of Canada and into Charlotte, N.C. Is there any truth in this? I thought that they were in Florida or is Florida their corporate offices?

3. I have also heard that Para Ordnance is going to start manufacturing AR-15s...anybody know anything about that?

Rumors, rumors, rumors...

For your Steyr questions, pop over to the Steyr Club - the best source of info on that brand, and a good bunch of guys (I'm one, so discount that. :p ) CDNN still has a goodly number of the M-series in stock, cheap (about $340, last I heard) and they're great guns (I have two).

Para? Yup - made in Canada. I have also heard they are moving their manufacturing to the US. Dunno about the rest. Also good guns - I love the LDA, but a lot of traditional 1911 guys hate it.

Cheers!

Thanks for the info there.

I am excited about the whole Para moving manufacturing into the US. With things being the way they are, that is a great that a company wants to open up shop here in the US.

I am also looking at them more and more (due to the above) and the fact that they just introduced their GI EXPERT 1911 .45 for $599!! And the add that I have seen states that "Dealer prices may be lower." That is just awesome!!

get the gun rights model of para, i have it and its the only one i carry now, they have single and double stacked models

Been carrying an alloy P-12 SA for years and years with thousands of rounds out of it.

So, overall, Para has a pretty good reputation then? I would really like one of their .45s as an entry type gun into the 1911 market to figure out what I do and do not like on them.

What about Steyr? I'm assuming that they are decent as well? I'd like to get an M40-A1 and I'd like to know how they rate when compared to the other polymer pistols out there. I have only ever seen one review, and it praised the pistol to the point that I almost went out and bought one.

you will hear a lot of bad things about para. but its the same with any gun. Ive been told that kimbers are worthless, mine has been perfect. same with the para, but again mine has been perfect, and I recommend the one I have to everyone.

exo, to be a bit more explicit than I was in my previous post . . .

I love my Para. I have a high-end 14.45 LDA model - set up as a target gun. It is the sweetest shooter I own (and I own some nice guns) and have shot in about 40 years worth of shooting. I got mine used from a friend about a year ago, and absolutely love it. Another good friend, a long-time gunnie like me, shot mine a few times and then went out and bought his own. I've got my eyes open for a carry version, probably a 12.45 with the 3.5" barrel.

OK, for plastic, you can't beat Steyr for my money. Or for yours, frankly, since they're about half the price they should be from CDNN right now. It's a great gun, just not known in the US. When I was looking to get into a plastic fantastic for carry some years back, I consulted with a buddy who is a collector. Shot a dozen different brands. The Steyr fit my hand more naturally than anything else. I got a S-9 shortly thereafter. And for a long time it was my primary carry.

Since, it has been replaced by the M357. Just a half inch longer in the barrel and the grip. Two fewer shots. But I have come to have a *lot* of respect for the .357 SIG caliber, mostly because of our ballistics testing (see my sig). I carry my M357 a lot, and love it. Poke around over on the Steyr Club, and you'll get the full skinny on what people like about them, what problems they've encountered, and what solutions have been found.

Hope that helps.

I just picked up a p14 LDA on a group buy,30 guns and 13 were put together so bad they couldnt fire. And their customer service sucks also.

I've not had any problems with Para Ordnance guns, but have had little but problems with their double stack magazines.

re: Para

I have seen almost zero problems relating to their single stack models. The vast majority of complaints have come from double stacks.

I have had 0 problems with my Para SSP.

Kanuk

Used to live 1/2 mile from their plant in Scarborough Ontario.

The hi-cap magazine problems could not have been helped by the stupid 10 round max; law they have in that gun fear nation! So putting them out with local IPSC and IDPA shooters for extended testing was not an option.

I love my adopted State, Florida, and carry all day, and every day. In fact our LEO spokespeople are on record as praising our CCW people shooting dead the would be possessors of their wallets!

The latest being a shotgun toting pair trying the "give me your wallet" story on a CCW chap in a do it yourself car wash (he was not impressed) after been not only given cash, just a chest full of bullets, the usual leaving the scene when shot took place, I say beat feet!

He dropped dead 50 ft away, his partner ran even faster!

Back to Parra, they will now be welcomed with open arms, and quite possibly tax breaks etc. in the US of A.

Good luck to them.

i've heard things about their double stack mags too. I have the double stacked version of their Gun Rights model and it has been flawless. However, I only carry 13 in the mag. No complaints here!

I donl;t care if Para moved production to my back yard. Their handguns suck badly and I'll never own another. The only thing sucking almost as bad is customer service from them. It was a single stack, too. SSP purchased about three years ago. Fixed by me (Para refused to make it safe to use themselves) and sold shortly after. So all they're doing is changing from Canuck crap to Carolina Crap.
