I have decided to up my number of rifles, and I think I want to get into "exotics." I am smitten with the AUG, but parts, magazines and overall modularity are lacking. The FS2000 is in current production and takes standard M16 mags, but is heavier and is said to have a mushy trigger. I have handled the AUG and it feels great; I've never handled an FS2000. The Aug is ambidextrous, but not automatically; the FS2000 ejects form the front and is completely ambidextrous. The AUG has interchangeable barrels (although they are expensive) but the FN has only one barrel length available. The AUG comes with decent integral optics, but the FN comes with open sights and a Picatinny.

The fact that I can get a new FS2000 for about a thousand dollars less than a decent used AUG or USR is a factor, but I don't want it to be the deciding one. I am looking to bring home a lot of cash from my deployment, so after elminating debt and investing heavily, I will have cash for toys.

What are your opinions on either rifle? Does anyone have experience with both?

I held one of the FS2000's last week and was very impressed by it.

But i've always wanted a Aug, but the price has definitely persuaded me otherwise.

Once the American AUG is in production then we'll really see what people choose.

Have you considered getting a rimfire bullpup, in order to explore the concept before going thousands into it?

Avoid the plastic Muzzelite bullpup stocks, they're junk. However, the Dixie Consolidated bullpup is getting solid reviews on RimfireCentral.com

I'm all set to order one as soon as they introduce their next variant; they're backordered on current models now, so might be a few months.

Based on the 10/22 action, drop-in stock kit for $185.

The FS2000 looks slick; but according to the recent review in SWAT magazine, there is no way to access the chamber quickly to clear a feed problem. That seems like a problem to me.

On the other hand, I have been able to shoot the AUG and it is a nice little package.

Can't speak for the FS2000 but I have fired a true AUG. Just for 2 magazines, but it handled nice. Full auto was totally controllable. Trigger wasn't great, but not bad at all for a bullpup.

Reviews I've seen on the FS2000 seem to indicate accuracy isn't that great. Clearing jams difficult.

I actually own a Bushmaster M17S and it's tension barrel makes it VERY accurate even in long strings of fire if you can figure out a way to rest it. That's about the only thing going for it unfortuantely. It's heavy, jams (although always user induced so far) can be difficult to clear, plastic can deform over time if left under tension throwing things off spec.

CDNN has a mag conversion kit for some varients of the AUG that allows the use of AR/M16 magazines. It's about $300.

If you're looking for the best performance, I'd have to say AUG, if you're looking for a good value, I'd say the FN.

If I were going to get another exotic bullpup, I'd actually go for the PS90 and get it SBRed. But that's me.

owned an aug a1,a2 ,fs2000,you can't corner with an aug very well, the fn forword ejects so its not a problem.the augs trigger sucks next to the fn.both guns are about 2 moa or worse in 16"aug 17.5"fn.controls on an fn are ambidextrius, the aug is not.the only things aug has over the fn is,quick change barrels(basicly useless for me)longer service record, easier clearing jams, better magazines.the aug thats being developed will likely be about 300.00 less than the fn too.
