I have decided to up my number of rifles, and I think I want to get into "exotics." I am smitten with the AUG, but parts, magazines and overall modularity are lacking. The FS2000 is in current production and takes standard M16 mags, but is heavier and is said to have a mushy trigger. I have handled the AUG and it feels great; I've never handled an FS2000. The Aug is ambidextrous, but not automatically; the FS2000 ejects form the front and is completely ambidextrous. The AUG has interchangeable barrels (although they are expensive) but the FN has only one barrel length available. The AUG comes with decent integral optics, but the FN comes with open sights and a Picatinny.
The fact that I can get a new FS2000 for about a thousand dollars less than a decent used AUG or USR is a factor, but I don't want it to be the deciding one. I am looking to bring home a lot of cash from my deployment, so after elminating debt and investing heavily, I will have cash for toys.
What are your opinions on either rifle? Does anyone have experience with both?
