Looking for a 9mm 1911. So far I found only a few manufacture that make them in this caliber for under $1k. So how does STI compare to Kimber, Springfield, and Para?

The STI will outclass everything you mentioned by quite a bit. They build a really nice factory gun that is well fitted, reliable and accurate.

If they could only make an all steel double stack instead of that polymer grip frame, I would be the first in line to buy them.

I have an STI trojan in 9mm (single stack), a couple Kimbers in 45ACP, and the wife has the SIG GSR 1911
While all of these are excellent and well fitted guns, the STI is by far the classiest well built piece that I own.
Shoots sweet too.
For the couple hundred extra, it's well worth it.

How does your 9mm recoil compare to your 45?

This is the reason why I am looking at a 9mm 1911. Less recoil and cheaper ammo.

it recoils hardly at all. In fact, you can actually get your sight picture back faster than the gun can recoil. Someone told me I need to have a gunsmith lighten the slide to make it run faster. It's basically painless to shoot. just pop pop pop away and yeah, ammo is basically 1/2 price. It's a standard weight 1911 only shooting 9mm, not much recoil.
Fun as heck.

The trojan 5.0 9mm almost feels like shooting a 22lr. I went out and bought Speer Gold Dot +P for it so I can get a little bit more recoil

how different are the 9mms from the .45s? Just daydreaming about a STI 1911 with 9mm and .45ACP uppers....

Rob, that is a tall order as they use different ejectors. It can probably be done, but it won't be cheap.

Other than that it is a slide-barrel-magazine-recoil spring swap.

So who is a good dealer?

Well, I just became a dealer this morning, but let me know what you need and I'll see what I can do price wise.

If you want a bunch of options (like fiber optic sights or something) I'd look at Dawson's Precision since they can install that stuff for you.
