I have another thread going about my wanting to get an STI 1911. Based on the feedback there, it looks like I'd be getting an STI Trojan 5.0 in .40SW.

Just a quick question though.

Compared to say, Kimber, Ed Brown, S&W, Springfield Armory, Sig' 1911 line, and the others, how does STI rank on quality?

It appeared that my only choice for a 1911 in .40 was Wilson Combat or STI. I figured that STI would be the more reasonably priced of the two.

So, how does STI rank?

I forgot about Para. Whoops. How stupid of me considering their HQ is based within bicycling distance from me.

How does STI fare against Para? Para makes this:

The S16•40 Limited which is chambered in .40SW.

The S16•40 Limited has a match grade barrel and slightly higher capacity than the Trojan 5.0 in .40SW. They also make a Todd Jarrett Limited 1911 in .40SW, but to be honest, I just can't see myself buying a gun that has some dude's name on it, regardless of how good he is in USPSA matches. Unless it's the manufacturer like Ed Brown or something, it's a turn off for me.

I'd pick the STI every time if I had the choice. Para is sort of proud of their product for what you get IMO.

YMMV.

Who is Agent 47? The guy looks like my high school PE teacher from a decade ago.

I've had exactly zero experience with Para but always thought they made very attractive guns.
Would love to have one of their 3'' Stealth Carry models.

Would you want a single or double stack 40? I personally like the feel of a single stack much better.

Let's not forget that STI has done what most firearms manufacturers will not do. Namely, take a stand for gun rights by not selling their product in California... Not even to LE departments. This was brought on by California's acceptance of micro stamping in ammunition to try to track gun owners.

Now that takes real guts for a company to do. especially when you take into account the size of the California economy. California has an economy larger than all but a handful of countries on this planet.

When was the last time somebody stood up for your rights with their actions and their wallet. STI does make a top of the line product and they now show themselves to be a top of the line company.

I'm also pretty sure that this trumps the video game references above.

Gun Manufacturer STI International Ends Sales to California

MICROSTAMPING UPDATE . . . Effective immediately, STI International has halted all shipments of firearms to California. The company will no longer sell any firearms to civilians or law enforcement in the state. The move by STI comes after Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed microstamping legislation into law. "This law is not going to stop criminals, it is only going to hurt law-abiding citizens in the state," STI's Pauletta Skinner told Bullet Points. "We felt like we had to take a stand against this law."

I owned a P14 about 14 years ago, or rather my dad did. That pistol was a real disappointment. Unreliable, not terribly accurate, not very well finished.
