I've ordered an STI Edge in 9mm for range and target use. Yes, I'm aware that 9mm won't make major, I'm not intending to compete with this pistol. I just wanted a high capacity, low recoil, slick 9mm 1911. :D

I'm a little confused by the magazine options and the parts needed to build a 170mm hicap. Looking on shooter's connection it looks like I can build a magazine by ordering the following:

- STI 170mm .38 Super magazine
- Arredondo 9mm spacer and follower

Questions:
- Can I use the .38 super spring or do I need a 9mm specific spring?
- Can I use the Dawson +1, +2, etc basepads with the spacer?
- What sort of maximum capacity should I expect?

Thanks in advance!

compete away (score's the same for A zones and misses ;)) My main USPSA gun is a SV I had built -- in 9mm.
I use super mags in mine. you may want to look into SPS mags. I am getting ready to order two of theirs I hear good things about them.

Faustulus,

Where are you acquiring these magazines? The only place I can find with SPS mags is overseas, and the conversion from Euro to Dollars plus shipping isn't making the price attractive. Also concerned that the 9mm magazines listed are also .38 super, which means a space probably isn't included and may lead to feeding issues.

I find the Sps prices usually equal about the same thing I pay around here ($60 for finished 140 mm mags). I will admit I load my 9mm a bit long OAL 1.153 (not that long as they still cycle in all my other 9mms)
I use super mag bodies and followers in competition and haven't had a problem (mostly I've used SV factory although I have some 120mm STIs that do just fine as well.)

http://www.dawsonprecision.com/ is a great place for mags as is http://www.shootersconnection.com/
I really recommend Shooter's connection, Chuck, is a good guy to do business with.
To give you an idea, with factory springs, followers and base pads on my 140mm tubes I get anywhere from 18-20 rounds. SPS claims 29 out of its big stick (170mm) super mag.
