Stickiest Pocket Holster

Just snagged a Pick and got a Sticky holster with it. I'm finding the Sticky isn't as reliable at staying in place as I'd like. I've seen Mika holsters recommended before. How sticky are they?
I think part of the problem is my Sticky is a very snug fit so maybe just a slightly looser holster would work. I've tried De Santis holsters and they don't do any better. What other options are out there besides those three, I'm day one on this pocket carry thing.

I don't pocket carry, so I don't have any first hand experience with them, but I'd think the kydex holsters with a shape designed to catch in the inside of the pocket would be more effective at keeping the holster in the pocket during the draw rather than a soft holster with a sticky material on it.

Aholster's pocket holster is one example of the type http://www.lefthandholster.com/pocket-aholster.html

I've pocket carried for years. I use a DeSantis Superfly and have no problems with it. Maybe it's the pants pocket that is the problem. Just a thought.:)

I'm sure it has more to do with my pants. Carrying in my work pants (Duluth firehose) in the cargo pocket. It is just what works best for my tool layout on the job. If I can't get something to work I'll change up my setup at work.

So did some investigating after work and it turns out the problem is that the rear sights are hanging up on the fabric border that goes around the whole holster. I think at this point I'll just take the sticky back since I still have the receipt. Now to figure out the replacement.
Anyone have first hand experience with the kydex holsters JTQ suggested?

This is a post I wrote for someone asking about pocket holsters for a Ruger LCP II:

I tried out 4 pocket holsters that I have for my KelTec P3AT. The DeSantis "The Trickster" and the Blackhawk Inside Pocket No. 03 both worked as they should; pistol was drawn cleanly and the holster stayed in the pocket. Both are ambidextrous (the DeSantis is leather while the Blackhawk is a nylon laminate), and both are a squared-off pouch-like design. The holsters also held the gun just enough; not too loose but not too tight either.

The other two, a Don Hume Front Pocket No.80 and a Concealment Concepts Holster "The Jaguar", were more of the tail hook design where the tail hook portion holds the holster in place against the seam of the pocket. This worked most of the time but both holsters held the gun very tightly (almost too tight), and I had to make a conscious effort to pull the gun and holster to the back of the pocket in order to get the hook to hold the holster in place. If I did this, the holster stayed; if not the holster came out when the gun was drawn.

Hope this helps.

That is really helpful. Given I'm trying to make a cargo pocket work the tail hook concept isn't really going to work now that I think more on it. I reached out to a local holster maker in hopes him and I could come up with something really effective. Toying with the idea of sewing some velcro inside my pants and on the outside of the holster (it was a slow day at work). What is the general opinion on the kydex trigger guards that just tie on to a belt loop? Example here: https://www.amazon.com/UM-Tactical-...8-1-fkmr1&keywords=trigger+guard+holster+pico
I like the concept but it would require a bit of alteration to the pants to install a grommet and wouldn't maintain orientation in the pocket.

I can't seem to find much locally besides DeSantis and Sticky so that limits me quite a bit.

I have had some holsters that were so “sticky” that if you draw the firearm, it’s still in the holster.

For the LCP, I like the clipdraw.

I’m with Jack B. I’ve been carrying in a DeSantis Superfly for years. Never had an issue. But if your trying to carry in a cargo pocket, no pocket holster I know of would work.
With that said Mika makes the best pocket holsters made, at least in my experience. And better yet, and more applicable to your situation he’ll likely custom make one to your needs. I guess he still does, I know he used to. If I were in your predicament I’d definitely be contacting Mika.

I really like the Remora for my P938. It works in pockets, doesn’t cover the rear sight and can be tucked IWB.

Just realized my first post got autocorrected. The gun I got is a Beretta Pico not a pick, whatever that is. Doubt that changes anything though.

I remember seeing an old leather pocket holster from the '20s or '30s and it had a buttonhole on a tab at the top of the holster. All you would need would be to have a button sewn into your pants pocket to keep the holster in place.

I've switched to the Blackhawk TecGrip pocket holster, and it is pretty sticky, and cost $15. We'll see how it performs over time, but for the past month, color me impressed.

The only one that I have used is the Mika . It says in my pocket and my 642 slides right out . Wearing my regular jeans it feels up my pocket and you can tell I have something there if you are looking there hard enough . It prints less without the holster in my pocket .

So the local holster maker doesn't really want to venture outside his IWB/OWB designs. Just a side gig for him so I don't blame him for not wanting to get involved in new designs. Mika got back to me and is willing to extend the base of his square cut holster to accommodate the width of my pockets. I'm thinking of asking him to to put the extra "tail" towards the front so it pushes the gun towards the rear of the pocket and rests more on the side of my thigh, this also places it right behind where my phone sits so it hides extremely well. I have half a mind to ask him to put a small pouch in the tail so I could put my pocket knife and/or a pen/pencil/sharpie. Can any one see any issues with a arrangement like this? I know you aren't supposed to keep anything in the same pocket you carry in but would that still apply if the extra items are holstered as well? I'd only blind holster the extra items and take the holster out to put the gun in.

Side note: I generally wear the same style pants for my street wear so this wouldn't just be used at work but will probably get a second standard holster for times I'm wearing nicer clothes.

You will not find many people as nice a Mika and I think he could answer your concerns and it might even give him a new holster design . I know his round cut holster takes up the whole pocket of my jeans and there would not be room for anything else .

Given I'm trying to make a cargo pocket work ...
That detail was missing from your OP, and does make a difference. Nearly all these pocket holsters that have been recommended are designed for a standard pocket, not a cargo pocket. Your experience has shown they aren't designed to work with a cargo pocket as there isn't enough contact with the inside of the pocket to keep the holster in the pocket during the draw.

Recently, on some forum, I did see a holster specifically designed for a cargo pocket. I thought it was interesting, but since it's not something I'd ever use, I can't remember where I saw it.

You may want to do an on-line search for "cargo pocket holster" and see what comes up. They will no doubt, look quite a bit different from what we've recommended so far.

I did leave that out and for the life of me wish I knew why I didn't think that an important detail. I have searched for some cargo holsters but they all seem to be designed to push the pistol towards the front of the pocket. This seems an odd choice to me as it would encourage printing while sitting and I'd wager drawing from the pocket would be easier from the side as well when crouched/sitting. Many seem to try and include mag storage in the same holster as well and that just seemed like a bad idea. Did my first pin match with my extra mag strong side, didn't play out very well.

The two I've had are a Remora (which I don't typically use for pocket carry, but rather IWB with no belt) and a DeSantis Superfly (which seems "stickier" than the more popular Nemesis). Both have been plenty sticky for me. Pocket carry is a last resort for me personally, only do it when I absolutely can't carry IWB.

My Stickey Holster stays in every pocket I’ve put it in while letting go of the firearm when drawing. I usually wear cargo shorts or pants but also my nylon mowing shorts and flannel lounge pants. My pocket pistols are an LCP2 and a Kimber Micro .380.

Remoras for me on the rare occasion I pocket carry. They seem to be sticky enough but not too much :)

So I've reached out to a few holster makers and had less than great responses. Must be a busy market. I think I'll just take this as an opportunity to learn leather work and start making my own.
