OK. I'm embarrased to ask, but I will.

That little brass bead on the front sight. Where does one place it in the sight picture? Does it rest inside the rear sight notch, or does one align the front post in the rear sight notch, leaving the brass bead just above the notch?

Anyone tried both and know about how much it changes point of impact? I was thinking one sight picture might be good for zeroeing in Hornady LE rounds, and another for a less ballistically efficient round.

I've always felt that the sight picture one uses is entirely personal choice.

That being said, I put the bead down in the notch for 40-60yds and hold the bead higher for longer shots. Works for me and makes longer range hold-over easy to figure.

I do the same thing as pmbiker. I shoot with the bead right in the notch for average 30-50 yard or so shots. If the shot it closer I just use a finer bead and if it's longer I let the bead ride up a bit to compensate for it.

I've never shoit any of my 30-30's over 100 or so yards so I keep the sights at the same spot most of the time but you really need to learn the sights for your own style of doing it.
