stock stain problem?

i tried to take off the stain on a 1936 22 like 7 or 8 times with stain remover and i dont think its coming off, i know some did but maybe its just dark wood.
any knowledge would be nice

Well perhaps it is just dark wood as they used mostly black walnut during that time period.

Another method is a soak in a solution of bleach, water, and cascade soap.

Do not soak for longer than 4 hours using this solution. (But at least 2 hours)

"...a 1936 .22..." Which one? There might be varnish or another finish on top of the stain though. Hard to tell what has been done to it in 73 years.
"...used mostly black walnut..." Not on .22's.
