Does anyone know the detailed differences between the pre-64 and post 64 model 70 actions?
I have a custom barreled pre-64 model 70 that I want to restock but the only thing I can find on the internet is post 64 stocks in both long and short actions. My prime question is: is the post 64 long action close enough to the pre 64 actions that a post 64 can be made to fit a pre 64?

Many thanks for the reply.
I've actually been looking at the Ross series of stocks Boyd advertise but they're all for post 64's.
I spoke with Tom Boyd. He told me that they would not do any specials. That's reasonable for a high production house. However, he also said that they have been getting a lot of calls for the pre-64 and they expect to make a run of them, probably early in 2012, and that he would call me when they do to let me know. I was hoping to act sooner but I may just have to wait, I guess, unless I can find what I want at an earlier date, and that's why I made the post.
Thanks again for helping.
By the way; I've been a Life Member of NRA for many more years than I like to think of so I try to do my part especially with the local NRA Member's Council, and other activities. I agree with your last remark.

Hello, again, RCModel.
This is just an update about the stock for a pre-64 Model 70 we were discussing last October. So far nothing from Boyd.
I did, however, finally contact Winchester directly to find out, once and for all, if I could adapt a post 64 long action to my pre 64. It looks like not only the trigger guard has been altered but several of the bolt holes have also been moved. Chances of making it fit are gone.
I'm very disappointed and still looking.

Thanks, RayO. I've emailed Richards for a response.
The trouble is that I want a thumbhole stock for the pre 64 model 70. Richards list stocks for that rifle but no thumbholes specifically. We'll see when, and if, I get a response from them.
One more thing: I see some pretty bad messages about them on the web, the most recent dated in 2007. I'm wondering if these are still true in 2012.

They do get a lot of negative comments.I've been buying stocks from them for 40 years and have been quite satisfied.
