Stocks for Ruger 10/22

I've got a Ruger 10/22 that I'd like to drop into a new stock. I'm looking for something lightweight and durable that doesn't break the bank. I've looked at the Houge (which I like but would prefer pistol grip) and a couple 'Dragunov' models (the style of which appeal) but have read very mixed reviews of.

I'm in CT (AWB woes) so iirc can't have a folder w/ pistol grip or I'd just get the butler creek mentioned in the thread my THR search turned up. Any thoughts appreciated.

Also, opinions on quality 25+ round mags - again reviews are all over the place.

Don't gun laws just get your goat? I've heard some marvelous things about the choate draggy stock, and some terrible ones about the fiberforce ones. Not sure about either, although I came within inches of buying a fiberforce one... I've heard that the Butler Creek mags with steel lips were spot on in quality and durability. Never used em, but seem strong enough from the ones I've examined in stores. The damned plastic-lipped Shooters Ridge one I bought is garbage. Feeds well until the last two rounds. Shoves em straight vertical into the top of the reciever every time. Ugh.

The TAPCO stock is very good for $89.

I put one on each of my boys rifles and they love them. The big advantage is they adjust with age.

i've herd good things about the axiom blackhawk. heavy barrel fits right in and is floated. adjustable stock and light weight.

War Squirrel - thanks, agreed on that choate, that's at the top of my list presently.
Titan, Chevy, I'd love to get one of those tapco stocks, but the CT laws won't let me as it's got more than one 'evil assault rifle' feature, i.e. the pistol grip + collapsible stock.
jhuwa, agreed that axiom does look nice, though sadly same problem. Thanks to all for advice on the steel-lip butler creek mags, I'll have to pick some up this weekend.

oh that sucks man, but wait your allowed to have 25 round mags in ct? here in ny we can only have them if there made in 1994 or before

Yeah, they essentially kept the 1994 federal AWB law but let us have high-cap mags. It's real pain actually, because manufacturers have to actually go out of their way to produce acceptable rifles - for example Sig makes the 556 in a 'SCM' config, in which they remove a number of the cool features of the gun to make it salable in CT and CA. Nice of them to do so, but again I'd love to have a less randomly neutered option.

Yes, I have heard that in some states putting a pistol grip on a .22RF plinker can turn it into a high power assault rifle. I'd like to see how that works some time. I wonder what the natural result of this is?

If you plan on a bull barrel, the Fajen Legacy Silhouette is a great stock that offers adjustable LOP and comb. It isn't much to look at, but seems to do the job quite well.
