This will be used mainly for my duck/goose gun. I've been using my 11-87 Premier, but last time out it didn't look too pretty resting on the mud and in the sand of the peanut fields. More of an upland gun. So, I'm looking into getting one of these. Both are of the Inertia Driven system, and both will be in Max-4 camo. Are they both easy to take down and field clean? Besides price, what are the pros and cons?

Thanks for any info.
Kenny

Besides price, I'm thinking the major differences are: country of manufacture Turkey vs. Italy; weight - Franchi is a little heavier(?); Franchi looks to have a more comfortable recoil pad if that matters. The Franchi will probably retain a little more value as Stoeger's generally seen as a budget priced brand.

Thank you for the input. I think I may go with the Franchi. Someone told me it would be easier to clean in the field.

I just saw one of the Stoeger 2000 guns at the local range. It seem to be well made. The owner who won one it at an auction, seemed to like it. It is a licensed copy of the Benelli recoil system. Benelli, Stoeger(IGA) and Franchi are imported by Beretta USA.

I know, since the 11-87 has already been in the mud keep it for your duck gun and buy a nice new 16 or 20 (or 28) ga. upland gun.

I don't know a thing about the two guns you're looking at. Well, I do know that Benelli, Stoeger and Franchi are OWNED by Beretta.

Well, I now have a price comparison to go by. The Stoeger 2000 in the Max-4 camo is going for $399. The Franchi I-12 in camo is going to be in the high $600 range, maybe even closer to $700. So, I guess I have to decide if Franchi is worth the extra $300.

Franchis can be had for $630, while the Stoeger is $400. Anyone have any new info on either of these?
Thanks

It's been three months since you first asked and you still haven't decided. :scrutiny: :scrutiny:

Buy the one that fits you best. The one that comes up to you shoulder and feels right. If neither one does, then keep looking (different brands/models).

Get what fits.

JMHO, YMMV, HTH.

I have a Stoeger 2000 and a Franchi AL-48. Both are nice guns. Certainly, Franchis, and Benellis in particular, have a certain panache and pride of ownership that doesn't come with the Stoeger. I can say though, that I bought the Stoeger because I couldn't tell any difference in the fit and finish of the Stoeger when compared to a Benelli M1 (except that he Benelli's bolt movement is incredibly smooth, almost glass-like). I think that the Stoeger 2000, which is imported from Turkey, is much nicer than the Stoeger double barrels I've seen imported from Brazil.

My AL-48 is a 20 gauge with a totally different operating system than that of the 2000. From the Franchis I've seen, their finish and overall quality are typically high quality across the board. I don't know how the new Franchi inertia gun breaks down, but I can't imagine it's any easier than with the 2000. The 2000 breaks down like a Benelli, but is, in my opinion, even better in one regard. Its recoil spring wraps around the magazine tube instead of being housed in the buttstock.

All of this said, if I were buying a new 12 gauge auto, I would probably buy the Benelli or Franchi for pride in the gun, and not because of any quality difference worth $300 or $1000.

Ok let me see if this helps , the stoeger is made in turky on the specs of the benelli Inertia system , the French is made by beretta with the specs of the same system, so its just wich ever fits your budget if you gonna get it in cammo , then you realy might as well get the stoeger, case the main differenc is the looks and the blueing on the barrles.

Wow!

This post is over a year old. I went with the Franchi. POS! I returned it to the store and bought a Benelli.

You must have had a bad one. I have a Franchi 48 AL and it rocks. I also had a shot at a O/U that was exceptional but more coin than I had at the time. I guess everyone lets one through once and a while. I would not hesitate to buy another.
