Went by Bass Pro Shops today to "look" at a Stoeger Cougar 9mm. Well I've finally learned that I can't just go "look". Initial price was $419, $443 including tax and $2.00 government background check and out the door. What a nice pistol. If it shoots as nice as it feels and looks then it'll be a winner. Range report to follow after shooting it this coming weekend, maybe tomorrow. Bass Pro Shops has "different" procedures than any other place I've bought a gun from before. Two "store" paper works that they fill out and have you sign, then government paperwork is filled out, signed and double checked by another store employee. They have a lock on the trigger that they won't remove in the store. They give you a key to take it off with after you leave the store. Gun is boxed up, sealed with tape and employee carries the gun to the front door of the store for you and gives it to you as you leave the store. Different but very customer friendly!

I got mine a month ago. nice gun, really solid feel. i was only able to shoot once so far. good shooter, lots of fun. the double action is looong. nice as a carry safety though. I think I might get the slimmer wood grips for it. only complaint is the decocking levers on the slide. if there was a way to slim them down to make racking the slide more comfortable that would be nice.

Shot the Cougar today. 79 rounds with no failures. Very low recoil. Grip fits my hand perfectly as I have long fingers and prefer a grip on the larger side. Accuracy is good. One of the reasons I bought the Cougar was I liked the slide mounted decocker/safety, same as my Beretta 92FS has. Well pleased with the purchase. :)
