I went to the Bass Pro shop today to look at Beretta PX4s. I liked them but the muzzle end seemed kind kind of big and chunky for what I want. Then I noticed a Stoeger Couger for $419 and took a look at it. Very nice. No rail so it's not as big and blocky. Only problem is that Bass Pro has those trigger locks on all the guns and will not take them off. So I can't dry fire and consequently have no idea what the trigger feels like.

Any input from you owners concerning trigger feel and travel and pull weight will be much appreciated. I called around to my local gun stores and no one had any for me to play with. Only Bass Pro has them and I can't really play with theirs.

Ive got a beretta cougar which is essentially the same gun and it is excellent. Mine is a DAO so I can't comment on trigger pull.

I have two Beretta Cougar 8000F models and one converted to 8000G.

Fantastic triggers on all, accurate and minimal recoil.

Stock, I've seen it reported as approx. 12 lbs DA, 5 lbs SA, with a long DA pull. That seemed about right on mine. Installation of an Olhasso D spring dropped the weights to maybe 9 lbs. & 4-something lbs. respectively. (By my inexperienced fingertip guesstimation guage). :)

I have about 800 rounds through mine & it's smoothed out & broken in quite nicely.

The Cougar is a great gun. No complaints especially for the price. Well the grip is a little blocky but no more then the PX4.

I have both the 8000 and 8040. (These are the 9mmP and 40S&W.) Initially the triggers were so-so. After about 5000 rounds through each they have improved a lot. Accuracy and handling of the Cougars are very similar to my CZ's. At the current going prices of $400-$420 these are sleepers, just like the CZ's were for the longest time.
