Okay, so I found a Stoeger Arms Cougar at the gun shop today. Apparently, it's a design bought from Beretta with a turning bolt instead of a tilting mechanism?

They were asking $479. Is that a good price? Can I find better? And, well, THR members, what is your best assessment of them?

Great gun!!!... Reliable, accurate, flawless shoot... love mine... 1500+ rnds, ZERO problems!.. Full-size, all-metal, heavy feel... what I love in a gun... a true 'sleeper' for $400.
Your price is alittle high... got mine on sale, NIB for $350 from a shop... see 'em over the net for $375-400... offer him $425.
If the gun feels right in your hand, and you like an all-metal gun... go for it, you won't regret it!

Google it, there's several magazine reviews available on line. It is a great gun and a bargain, although the price your shop is asking sounds high.

Stoeger didn't buy the design from Beretta, Beretta owns Stoeger and moved all of the Cougar manufacturing equipment to Turkey where they can build essentially the same gun for a much lower cost. The only real difference is the print on the slide, all parts, mags, etc. will interchange. The rotating barrel design used in the Cougar line is the same as that used in the new PX-4 series. Very wll made, accurate, reliable, easy shooting guns. One of the best deals going these days.

I bought mine for $ 329. Good for that price. Problems: Grip is too large for a carry weapon. DA/SA really sucks for me on this weapon. Sights are just barely above "adequate". Safety flips up instead of down...bad ergo/training if you ask me.

Good Stuff: Beretta quality in a Turkish made weapon...all metal with the exception of the guide rod (which one can purchase from Beretta that they designed for their original cougar). Very accurate...in spite of the trigger. Feeds very well...I never had a function problem with it.

Makes for an inexpensive range gun.

Price...should be in the $ 350 - 375
