Bought a Stoeger double defense shotgun about 2 months ago. First time I fired it, the forearm fell off and it would not break open. Sent it back to Stoeger and was told it would be 2 months for repair. Are you kidding me? I have called every week and they have not even looked at it. Go thing I did not need it. How would that work with any other product that you bought? Sorry it was defective out of the box…wait over 2 months and we will try to look at it. Last time I buy anything from stoeger. I am posting this just to give heads up on Stoeger’s CS that is non-existent.

Sorry to hear about your experience. Thanks for letting us know about Stoeger's CS. I really feel for you; I've had my share of defective guns.

Here's my experiences:
Beretta-horrible customer service
Ruger-excellent customer service
Smith & Wesson-very good customer service
Remington-good customer service

1) You were told it would be two months. Has that two months passed? If not, why are you calling them?

2) You bought the absolute cheapest double on the market. If you had done your homework you'd see that there are very few satisfied Stoeger owners.

My dad had a Stoeger O/U where a firing-pin plunger broke...they no longer make the part and you couldn't get the part anywhere. Stoeger said they could 'investigate' a part but that would take them 6-8 months.

He quickly sold the gun and bought a Beretta

I had to send in a Stoeger coachgun in January, got a new shotgun back two months later, upgraded stock even. The stoegers need a good break in to run smoothly, roughly 200 shells should loosen it up for you. Mine runs perfectly now. Sorry to hear about your bad experience.

My new coach gun should be arriving at Stoeger/Benelli in Maryland within a day or two. 3 cleanings and 3 boxes of shells provided more doubles than single shots. I called and received the RMA yesterday. Their estimate was 5 weeks turn around. Not what I had hoped.

Mine locked up twice. Second time I took it back to LGS where I purchased and they couldn't do anything with it. I can't understand why they don't just send a new one and say..."sorry bout that" and all is well. But, of course, that would be taking the high road.

IMTH, when my Benelli broke I figured I might as well apply the BUG concept to shotguns, and I got a Mossberg 930 SPX. Actually going to take it to the range for the first time today.

I find it interesting that Stoeger has such long CS times, when (if you see my other thread) I seem to be having an excellent time with Benelli's CS (at least on the phone), since they're both owned by the same company.

Could be Stoeger is the low end Benelli, if you can even use the two in sentence together.

I don't know but do have a Stoeger Coach gun in 20 ga and several Uberti Cattleman 45 Colts SAA. I sent one of the Uberti Cattlemen in due to it chocking on 5 rounds of BP then noticed it had less than a .0005 cylinder/barrel gap causing it. I got it back in 6 business days with a perfect .006 cylinder/barrel gap. Stoeger also handles Uberti repairs as well. I did however send it back via Bud's where I bought the gun.

The Stoeger Uplanders with the double triggers and extractors are quite popular in CAS. They're cheap, and they work. If you had looked BEFORE you leaped, you would have seen lots of issues with the "upgraded" Uplanders with single triggers. Rule of thumb: If you go cheap, stay simple. Could be why there are no world class $500 O/Us OR SxSs.

Actually there are Viginian. I have a Liberty 12 ga side by side mule ear shotgun. Now this gun was imported by Liberty Arms in the late 70's through the 80's. I paid $300 for mine used though I was the 3rd owner it had only fired two rounds prior to me. First owner died before he could fire it and second fire two rounds to make sure it shot. The gun is now imported by CZ and sells for $800+ from Turkey. Same factory, same parts same gun with no changes other than the stamping on the case. Oh and mine is one of a few 24" barrels as they only imported them for 1 year.

"What cost $300 in 1979 would cost $889.08 in 2010."

I'd hardly call that a good investment...

The early Stoeger's and Baikal's are the favorites of the Cowboys. SKBs with the single trigger is next.

I built a Cowboy Competition out of a Remington/Baikal that is still running for over three years of continual shooting.
If you run into Jake Mountain ask him to show you the "Red" shotgun.

I bought one also, and had both stocks break with only bird shot during dove season. I did all the repair work myself and haven't had a problem with it since. They are junk!

Break in - on a coach gun? Well, I guess I can see that - given all the intricate machinery in one of those.

In fact, I think I'll take a lesson from it and start a "break in" period on other things I've taken for granted like; crescent wrenches, ratchets, jointed cleaning rods, variable tipped screwdrivers and the like...

There is a break in on a Stoeger coachgun, they tend to like to make them tight. Remember these are brand new shotguns, not the double your grand father gave you when you were a kid.

jgray- I can't help you with the switching of triggers around, but I do have a question. Why would you want to switch the triggers around? Seems to me they are the same way left handed as they are right handed. I'm not trying to insult you, I'm just curious.

Just a follow up.....supposed to receive the Stoeger back tomorrow. Will function check it and submit a report. I hope they made it right...what's not right is paying for a functioning gun and having to wait over 6 weeks to get one.
