I already posted this in Legal but was told to post it here too. On monday my rifle among other things was stolen. It is a ruger #1 (I think a 2000 model varminter) .243 winchester. The SN is 133-77366. It was stolen here in Lubbock, TX. The police have finally added my case to the system but that as much as they have been able to tell me. I am still waiting to hear back from the detective. Thanks in advance.

Although I most Likely won't see any of your property up here where I live, I will most certainly keep my eyes open for you.
Good luck
God speed

I'm a fireman in Lubbock, and it just so happens that another fireman owns Empire Pawn on 50th near the interstate. Same fireman used to own Tx Tactical Arms on 34th. He's branched out a little with the pawn shop, but still deals primarily in firearms and AR's. I forwarded the info on your rifle to him and let him know to look out for it.

I doubt it'll end up out here in the East Texas area but, I'll keep my eyes open. Good luck and I hope they catch the crooks. Nothin' worse than a thief.

#90 in the FAQs.

Be on the lookout for my stolen guns.

90. Posting a request that members watch for your stolen guns is likely a useless exercise. While I sympathize (I had 23 guns stolen in a 1985 burglary and to date only 4 have been recovered) the fact is that nobody reading the forum is going to rush out and start searching gun shows and pawn shops for your guns. Nor will they write down the serial numbers you posted and check every gun they come across. Sorry. I hope the cops have good luck in stumbling across them and returning them to you.

^Art signed off on it, so I believe he's gtg, Mr. Pig.

Good luck in the recovery of your property. Those No. 1s are fine rifles.

:)

Sorry to hear that

I am here in Austin and I will keep an eye out. spending lots of time in the Pawn shops anyway looking for an SKS still

Hope for the best, but expect the worst...

My truck got broken into in Kansas City last October. I figured everything was long gone (tools, GPS, MP3, leather jacket, etc) but I got a call a week later from a dectective saying that they found my all my stuff. Keep a positive attitude, while it does suck, it is just stuff.

how can you call a rifle just stuff? a rifle should be loved and nurtured, just like any other living being...

dont see many of that kinda rifle in my part of indiana, but if i see one ill check out the serial numbers

good luck

Despite the fact I live as far away from you in the lower 48 states, I shall keep my eyes peeled for your fine rifle and let you know if I find it.

Thanks again everybody. I still have no good news. As of friday the pd still had not even entered the serial # into the ncic database. If they still havnt on monday I will be contacting both the sherrif and the atf. bd- yes everything else that got stolen is just stuff and can be replaced. This gun can not. Even if I do get another #1 just like it, it is still not the same gun. My grandad gave me this gun and he will not be with us that much longer. I have some very fond memorys with this gun that can not be replaced.

Sorry to hear that; wish you Godspeed with the recovery.

I will be on the lookout for it. I haven't seen many rifles matching that description around here, so if I see one that looks similar to yours, I'll cross reference the serial number with the one you put up. Good luck. I understand exactly what you mean about the rifle being irreplaceable. My Grandpa bought a Glenfield .22 for my dad in 1973, and I got it for my 13th Christmas. If I lost that rifle, no doubt I would do everything within my power to relocate it. I will keep my eyes open.

Forgive my insensitivity, I was not aware of the sentimental value.

To answer your question simply - because it is just wood and metal. The point of my post was to try and help to put things into perspective. While it does suck that the rifle was stolen, you should not allow yourself to be consumed by the loss of a material item that can be replaced. You can choose to dwell on a bad situation and allow it to eat you up from the inside out, or you can choose to move on from it. Life is just to short to worry about stuff.

The fact that this rifle holds sentimental value changes the situation and I completely understand why the owner wants to get it back. Had I known that before, I would not have said what I did.

I have good news!!!!. I got a call from my bank today that someone tryed to pass on of my stolen checks. So I hauled butt across town to the bank and gave them my report # and phone #. They sent out an alert to all of their other branchs. Before I even got home a manager from one of there other branches called me and said that they tryed to pass another check at his branch and that the police were arresting them as we spoke. A few minutes later the police call me and tell me that they got 2 of the 3 guys. As long as these guys havnt already unloaded all of my stuff I think that I should get it back.

Awesome news; wish you a speedy recovery of those rifles...and the thieves a speedy transit to a new home where they can make new friends. ;)
