I have never seen a good deal on a gun in a pawnshop. The last one I was in had a used .22 LCR with Crimson Trace grips for $625; that's a dollar more than Bud's wants for a new one!
Just last week I picked up a S&W 2 1/2 barrel 686, no dash, .357 for $650, tax included.
Just got the letter from Lew Horton saying it was a Lew Horton special run (as the fancy S&W grips hinted to me.) Worth more than $650, I'll say politely.
And about 3 months ago bumped into a S&W 66-1, 2 1/2 barrel, for $550, tax included. What is more it has recessed chambers but NO pin in the barrel. It's called a transition model.
AND a few months before THAT I got a S&W 19-5, again 2 1/2, blued for $400. Yes $400. Had cycling problems but I fixed them all myself and restored it to an excellent shooter.
Yes I'm a snuby fan. Big time fan.
You just have to look hard and know your guns well.
About every 3 months I will make the rounds of 3 or 4 pawn shops in town. I mostly just see over-priced junk. Several months ago I came across a very nice 4" nickel S&W Model 15 priced at $379. I offered $300, they accepted and I left a very happy fellow.
While the days of the $200 Model 10 on every shelf are past us, $500 seems to be pushing it. Though I recall seeing a 4" nickel plated model 10-7 in a pawn shop 7 years ago priced at $750 .
