Paul Kirchner, of the API List, recently posted this very interesting article.
Is this the author and illustrator Paul Kirchner?

Lee Lapin, great link. Thanks.

Gary Cooper movie

The Gary Cooper movie was Real Glory from 1939. There is a scene in there where a captured Moro is threatened with burial in, or with, a pig carcass or skin to force him to give information.

There is also a scene where a Moro is shot multiple times but still able to kill the commanding officer (or some other bigwig).

I remember hearing about a Moro who at the battle of Bagsak? I think? Around 1911, soaked up 32 hits from either Krags or Springfields, including multiple pistol hits in that number, before a 00 Buck round to the head stopped him in his tracks.

Battle of Bagsak Mountain, 1913 -- the baptism of fire for the M1911 pistol.

:neener:

When people ask me why I choose a 1911 .45ACP over others... I jokingly reply that I'm Filipino, and that the 1911 and .45ACP cartridge was designed for Filipinos.

My mom and dad has all kinds of stories of stories about the Moros, passed on to them by their parents. When my siblings and I were kids, and doing something we shouldn't be, my mom wouldn't threaten us with spanking or groundings, she'd just tell us that the Moros will kidnap us during the night because we're bad. That usually put us back in line.

Growing up in Davao City (about 200 miles of many of the places mentioned in those articles), I've had my own run-ins with the modern Muslims. They are every bit as psychopathic as their predecessors a century ago. Only now instead of being armed with barongs and sundangs or kris, they're carrying M16s and M14s, courtesy of the funding provided by their Arab brethren.

The 1911 and the 12ga are my friends, I shall not want; and though I may find myself in the valley of the shadow I will not fear,
for I have reloads;
my eyes are clear and my hands steady
and clean cold steel comforts me all the days of my life.

A lot of us here frame things in that same twisted way, heheh...

:)

Agreed Mr. Murphy. And we should all terr. body with pig skins. no problem. Anyone firing or killing civillians if they want to play they pay. Wrap them up tight in pig skin.

Dr. Montano, an eminent scientist sent by the French government to Sulu, describes the entry into the city of Tianggi of eleven juramentados during the Spanish occupation:

'Divided into three bands, they crept into town, pursuing a frenzied course. Hearing the cry of "Los Juramentados", the soldiers seized arms. The juramentados rushed upon them fearlessly with krises. One of them struck in the breast by a bullet, rose and flung himself upon the troops. Transfixed by a bayonet, he remained erect, trying to reach his enemy who held him impaled. Another soldier ran up and blew out his brains before he dropped. When the last juramentado had fallen and the corpses were picked up from the street, it was found that fifteen Spaniards had been hacked to pieces and many wounded. And what wounds! The head of one Spaniard was cut off as clean as if with a razor and another was cut almost in two."

I believe I would have to go with another of Mr. Browning's creations - the BAR.

Well, a M1917 .30 cal would be better, so long as I didn't have to carry it.

A long time ago, I was in the 30th Infantry at Fort Sill, the only Infantry outfit there. We caught a lot of details, and running the confidence course was one of these. This course involves the troops crawling through barbed wire while machineguns shoot overhead. At that time, the M60 was not certified for overhead fire in training, so we had 6 M1917s -- and I loved them!

Don't worry about carrying them -- get a Cole cart. These were bicycle-wheeled "rickshaws" and you could easily pull the gun and tripod, already set up behind you.
