I have a like new rem 870 made in 1991 it has a 21 vent rib barrell rem choke, factory camo furniture, the strange thing is i'm pretty sure it has a chrome lined barrell is this possible. I have another 870 but the inside of the barrel looks totally different, the one that has the barrell that is crome lined is a very heavy barrell even though it is 21inch, what do I have and what was this guns intendend purpose?

That sounds like their turkey gun. It's probably got a remchoke, correct? Chrome lining of Shotgun Bores goes a ways back. It's a way to finish the barrel cheaply by plating a rough bore instead of polishing it out well. I don't think that the Remington 870 ever had that, though. It's an 'in the white' finish with no blueing or any other type of finish. Might be smoother than yourother 870, but I seriously doubt it's chrome lined.

The test for a chrome-lined bore is to put a drop of cold blue on the bore. If it takes the bluing, it is NOT chrome-lined. The blue will shoot out after a shot or two, so it won't harm the bore.
