Use your smartphone, and snap some pics... they will leave...
Late 20's... clean cut??..(didn't say) ... they either WERE the Law, or looking to BREAK the law.... ether way they won't want pictures... I'm with you, They got to GO......!! Why I like my own place, or my private, got to have the combo to get in gun club, HAVE to wear your member ID on you at all times... love it..

Is every public range in California a weirdo-magnet?

Don't recall the name but the one I drove by, "once", up in the local LA County mountains looked like a maze of good, bad, ugly, and crowded/bunched-up..

And like, and to, the OP - in my world - IF something with live guns and ammo around and something doesn't look or feel right, I either get it right or leave

Keeping aware of what's around you and acting accordingly means putting distance between good and bad, closer or further, one way or another
