A 16-year-old girl from Slinger was in critical condition Sunday after she was shot in the head by someone in a passing vehicle on Washington County Highway K just east of Highway 41 in the Town of Addison, authorities said.

The girl was in a vehicle heading west on the highway around 11 p.m. Saturday when someone in a passing westbound vehicle shot at her vehicle multiple times, according to a press release from the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

The girl was being treated at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Wauwatosa. She had not been identified as of Sunday night.

She was one of three people in the vehicle. The driver, a 17-year-old boy from Slinger, and the other passenger, a 17-year-old Hartford boy, were not injured.

The Sheriff's Department was investigating the shooting and did not have any suspects in custody.

Addison residents said they were surprised when they learned of the shooting.

"This is a very quiet road," said Anthony Foscato, 48, who lives near Big Cedar Lake, about a half-mile from where the shooting occurred. "The only problem in the past has been at the bottom of the hill at the lake, because (motorists) don't always see it."

As a result, people occasionally drive into the lake, Foscato said.

Sunday morning, people started coming by Foscato's home because they thought an accident had occurred outside his door.

"People are extremely confused because there're so many stories going around," he said.

Jerry Oppermann, whose home is about 300 feet from the road, slightly diagonal from the shooting scene, said he was home Saturday night but did not hear any shots.

Oppermann said he didn't know anything was wrong until police rang his doorbell. Although police told him to stay inside, he said he walked to the end of his driveway and could see scattered glass and car headlights on the highway.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Washington County Sheriff's Department at (262) 335-4378 or the Washington County Tip Line at (800) 232-0594.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

This happened a few miles from where I live.
Its quite remarkable because crime of this level of violence in my area is very rare.

It doesn't say that she was killed, fortunately...

i dont know, shot to the head... possibility of being a vegetable for the next 40 years... imagine her parents having to change her bedding and wipe drool from her mouth till they die of old age and she gets sent to a nursing home... sometimes, death isnt the worst thing that could happen...

i hope shes ok, and recovers without any ongoing problems... but i doubt that it will happen

I dont know the area, so I have no idea if there are gangs, or even "wannabe" gangs there, but thats what it smells like to me. somebody saw the car that looked like someone elses, and though it was a rival or some such, and opened up. If I had to guess, and I do, that where my money is. 'Course, always possible she, or someone she was with are mixed up in that kind of thing, and they were they correct, intended target, and you also just cant rule out the random, psycho shooting at whoever please him for no reason.

Hopefully all turns out ok for her, and the scumbags are caught, and enjoy being bubba's cellmate and life partner for a LONG time.
