I have the TLR-1 unit mounted on my XD40 for home defense. The unit has worked well every time I have used it, seems to be well made.Have not fired the weapon with the light on so I can't say how it will hold up under recoil, but they have a good reputation.

I had a TLR-2 and used it for both an XD40 and a Glock 19. Great product at a great price. I found mine for ~$200 brand new. I sold it for no good reason and regret it.

The LED is quite bright and the construction is very well machined aluminum. It is very high quality.

However, do you really want the TLR-2 with the laser? I say this because it is not the best accuracy wise. For one thing, it is very far below the barrel, increasing the parallax problem. Your aiming will be off for 5 yards vs. 25 yards. For another, since it is just a laser on a bulky, rail mounted light, it could easily come out of alignment to some degree. Finally, if you remove the light, you lose the laser. If its for a carry gun, you might want to retain the laser.

For all of these reason, I would suggest the TLR-1 and get crimson trace grips or a LaserMax guide rod. This is a better, albeit more expensive, option. It also fits better in Wilderness SafePacker cases with the TLR-1.

Tlr-1

I opted for the TLR-1, didn't want to pay the extra $$$ for the laser, just wanted a light for my night stand gun. Its very bright and well constructed. I did take it to the range and ran a few mags thru with the light on. After 3 or 4 mags the light started coming loose from the rail so I removed it for the balance of the session. Its very easy to take on and off and tightens with a coin.

I have the TLR-2 and am extremely happy with it all-around. Built well, very bright and good battery life. Also excellent lifetime customer support.

My only gripe is the TLR-2 is not waterproof, but the TLR-1 is.

Hmm, sounds like if you aren't worried about the laser than the TLR-1 is the way to go.

For those who have the tlr-2, does the laser hold zero over long sessions of shooting? Can you remove it for cleaning and put it back on without losing the zero?

If the answer is negative, then the TLR-1 makes the most sense.

^Yes, mine has held zero fine. I just am turned off that the added laser makes it not technically waterproof.
