From a purely mathematical standpoint, it's impossible for a 35 Whelen to kick more than one of the 300 Magnums if they both are loaded with like-weight bullets. By that I mean, if you were the hypothetically have a Remington pump chambered in one of the 300 Mags, it would kick more than than the same rifle chambered for the Whelen. Agreed?

That being said, my father has a Remington 700 Classic in a Whelen. Very light rifle that kicks like Sister Sara's mule. Brutal. I do actually own one magnum(don't tell anyone), a 358 Norma and honestly its recoil bothers me less than the Classic in 35 Whelen. There's no voodoo involved, the 358 is a heavier rifle with a better recoil pad.

But then there's recoil energy vs. recoil velocity, which is a subject for an entirely different post.

I agree, but a 225 grain bullet at 2700 and a 180 at 3100 both thump you pretty good. :)
