Any idea what it is? It seemed to function fine with dry firing.

Looks like a firing pin
I thought that might be it. I wonder how the the he'll that fell out.

On the bright side the gun is now inert, right? Ie I can store the firing pin in my small safe and nothing will make that gunfire? I left my lock at the gun store accidentally.

Yeah, it won't be making anything go bang without that piece in there.

Just a suggestion for future endeavors, when taking apart an item unfamiliar to you, such as a gun, Take pictures of the assemblies as you take them apart. There is a good chance you have a camera handy, even if it is just the one on your phone. It only takes a little time to do this, but it can save you a lot of time and frustration come re-assembly.

That's good to know it makes storage less of a hassle while I don't have a lock on it.

Funny how easy it is to make it inert. At this point it's more dangerous as a club, which is for good for my needs and storage.

You know that's a good idea. Especially since if its on my phone I don't have to get up and keep washing my hands to check a youtube video on my tablet or PC.

Where the notch is on the end there should be a pin thru the bolt to retain it.
Thanks, I think with that knowledge I should be able to assembly it correctly.

Just remove the bolt, that way it would be easier to get back to a working condition.

True, just trying to make the best of an annoying/random situation, also the bolt wouldn't most likely fit in my safe (handgun).

I'm talking about the Bolt that has the firing pin and extractor, not the Bolt carrier.

It's just part of the California mandated emissions control system. Throw it away.
