I have stripped the paint off my CZ 82 and don't know if I should bake on some black gun kote or blue it. Is it easy to blue a pistol like this? I done touch up bluing but never an entire gun... Any comments on the ease of bluing and what brand I should use? Do you blue it and then bake it????

Thanks

I reccommend SuperBlue if you want to cold-blue it. Start by making sure the slide is 100% oil free. This includes oil from hour fingers. The surface needs to be soaked in acetone then alcohol to remove any residual oil. Then you need to place the slide in some boiling water for a minute or two. Remove it and apply the blueing liquid. Repeat the water / bluing until you like the finish. Then rinse it off and blow the water out. Put it back in the alcohol to remove the rest of the water. Now all you do is rub it down with 000 or 0000 steel wool soaked in gun oil. Should make a nice deep finish that can easily be touched up.

that about covers it for cold blueing.

one tip...use a cake cooling rack with the widest grate possible to set it on.

Parkerizing is stupid-simple. Get a decent size Pyrex pan, some dowels, and some stainless steel wire to suspend the parts. Degrease as stated above. Bring water with parkerizing mix to a boil and back off a little. Suspend parts and wait till they almost stop fizzing. Boil in rinse water for a few minutes. Blow out excess water and dip still warm parts in Mobil-1 synthetic oil.

You're done.

I'm going to redo my Cz82 by glass beading and hot blue. Plus add a set of custom grips. Should turn out pretty nice.

be careful of the grips

I decided to have a gunsmith blue mine and I have the custom grips as in the picture above but I darkened them band then put polyurthane on them. Word of caution with all CZ 82 grips: take some epoxy and build a "burm" behind the ridge that runs along the front part of the grip. These crack and break very easy and I would assume the wood ones are extremely fragile. I will post mine next week when it is done.
