Stripper clip lubrication--??

Guess this is the right board---Hey, I know WD-40 is a no-no with ammo (ruins the primers). I am storing some .223 ammo on stripper clips and want to make loading ( and then charging the mags) as smooth as possible. What, if any, is a suitable lubricant for these strippers clips?

Also, would storing ammo on stripper clips over an extended period of time have any determental effects? I'm not sure what the inner liner of the stripper clips is made of (aluminium?) and am wondering if over time there could be some chemical reaction between it and the brass of the ammo.

The Greek .303 ammo I have from 1976 was stored on steel clips with no noticed damage to the ammo or clips, but it was stored in a sealed ammo can so there was little oxygen to cause corrosion.

As far as oil on clips, I would certainly not put a fresh coat of oil on them to store with ammo. I might put oil on a clip and then use it about 10 times at the range in order to remove all but the lightest coat of oil. I would still be a little worried about oil on clips. Just store them in a container with little oxygen and you shouldn't have to worry about corrosion as long as the container remains air tight.

FWIW, re what you contemplate ... NO!!

It's not just an ''anti WD40'' thing .... I just don't think it'll help at all. If my experiences are anything to go by ... particularly with 7.62 x 39 strippers ... I have a job stopping rounds coming out of a dry clip!! have to tweak the spring ends usually.

I'd reckon they are usually steel but if corrosion is a concern then I would use a small rag well impregnated with CLP ..... but not ''wet'' with it. Use that to lightly wipe over the internal surface where rounds bear on spring ....... so it is little more than a light film.
