The steel case ammo did not behave with adequate lubricity when loaded into the newly manufactured steel clips. I had gotten both types: the solid ones obtained from Numrich and some from E-Bay with tips cut into the ends. Neither one wanted to perform with the steel case. The brass ammo (7.62X54R) did OK, but the steel case, being cheaper and more common left me with a headache.
Now, I reload numerous calibers and I use a case lube from UNIQUE. It's based on bee's wax, is anyhydrous and should not induce rust on the Russian ammo. I lightly lubed the bottom, not the primer end, but the bottom end of the shell casing where the clip would grip it. The rounds slip out now with tactical speed, as if a WWII rifle could be called "tactical"; but the rounds slip into the Russian rifle with ease. The Russian receiver does demand that the clip line up straight, but; I think that is a workable solution for the guys having problems with the stripper clips.
