Stupid question, but what are the best Mosin Nagant stripper clips?

I know, I know. When searching for these things, it's like picking between the lesser of two evils, however I'd like to get some opinions. I'm open to modifying them to make them work. I've heard brass stripper clips work better than the steel ones, but I'd like some actual opinions. Yeah, I could load it one by one, but I'd like to be able to use them. I've got some funds, and I bought a but-out-bag/range bag and a ammo sling/pouch thing (cost me a dollar) from J&G. I've got one more thing to buy (birthday present to myself), and I think I'll get some stripper clips for when my mosin comes in.

So, can anyone tell me which ones they've had the least amount of problems with?

DH,

Not a stupid Q at all. Finding quality strippers that actually work is much harder than one might think. At least I have failed utterly.

I don't think we are alone though.

IIRC, there was a THR member who was thinking about tooling up and making some good ones.

I would love to have some too!!

Well, I found some on Ebay a guy was selling. Looked like he made them himeslf. They were brass, and he has hundreds of replies that they all worked perfectly. Stupid me, I didn't buy them when I got the chance, and now he's not selling them anymore. I'd like to find them again.

I've also found some actual 1950's and '60's production hungarian clips that I think may work, albiet slightly expensive. Can anyone comment?

Classic Arms is selling some, but I haven't used them myself. If they're selling them, I'd at least give them a shot. I've had good luck with the CA folks.

strippers !!

try to get the original ones, steel izzy or tula stamped. these work EXTREMELY well and will hold up to any kind of abuse. the brass ones also work well, but get damaged easily.

something to think about.

I think Numrich is selling some repros, stamped steel or something, pouches as well that come with 6 clips... might be worth looking into...

I agree, go for the original steel stripper clips.

I got a few boxes of them at the Bill Goodman's Gun and Knife Show a few months ago. They are holding up great; although some of them need a little "breaking in" to work perfectly.

The big thing is making sure you load the clips correctly...that makes ALL the difference.

Don't use the clones! They do NOT work right, reportedly copied from an SVT stripper. The bends are not sharp enough. I managed to find enough to completely outfit a roll out belt, when my M38 was my only rifle, and it took over a year just to locate good stripper clips. Look for arsenal stamps on the back, and good sharp bends. Otherwise, you're wasting your time and money.

I have a few of the crappy repros.

If you remember to do the thing where you tilt the top cartridge up and use it to shove the others downward, it should work, even if it'll still be kinda crunchy.

Thanks for all the advice. I think I'll buy some brass ones from Classic Arms and some reproduction ones from Numrich. I can get them to work.

Before you buy anything, do some research first on the crappy reproductions. (Speaking from experience.)

I wish I read the enclosed link before giving away $2 or $3 for 5 pieces of bent scrap metal. (Clips are ~2/3 down the page. What to look for is at the bottom of the stripper clip section.)

stripper clips that work

i bought a spam can of chinese surplus that had 340 rounds, all of the ammunition was packaged in stripper clips. I found that the original chinese steel was a little stiff but a friend from the forum nickel plated them on shares. They now work great.

Try to find 1950's chinese surplus with 340 rounds per can and they will most likely be packaged in stripper clips.
