Ok, i was at the range today, and i had a load squib on me. The bullet is currently stuck about 1 1/2 inches past the forceing cone. I was thinking of useing a Wooden dowel rod or even a sturdy cleaning rod and a small mallet to get it out but i'm afraid of damageing the rifleing. With BP rifles there was a little cleaning rod atachment with a screw on the end for pulling bullets, is there something similar available?

If it helps, its a Smith and Wesson 686. 4" barrel.

Thanks.

I feel your pain.
A cleaning rod may or may not do it it will probably bend bfore you can dislodge the bullet
With a steel rod you can also gouge inside the barrel if hammering on it.
Protect the grooves and crown.
I would suggest finding a brass rod just a little smaller than your bore size smooth off the end chamfer it or radius it with a file or dremel or emery cloth anything but a sharp corner going in the barrel being pounded.
Use this to drive the bullet back with a hard mallet either hard plastic or brass.
A padded vice or strong friend and piece of carpet are your freinds too.

Check the bore carefully once you get it out.
Best of luck.

Uuugggghhhh!!!

OK, i got the bullet free with a few small drops of oil in the barrel, and tapping it out with a dowel rod and mallet. But, In the process, the cylinder and the cylinder arm popped off. Is this supposed to happen or did i break something? Is there some kind of trick to getting it back on?

Thanks again guys, i know, i'm kinda clueless with revolvers. Normally i stick to semis.

No
Its not supposed to happen check the screw closest to the crane or bottom front of the sideplate.
Unscrew it an look at it closely check if it is broken.

Send me a PM if you need free help or advice it may not be good for much some have said but its always free.

AWSOME!!! Thanks a million man. The screw WASN'T broke!!! But, by takeing it out i figured out that it needed to be removed before the cylinder could be replaced. (hmmm, knowing this might also make cleaning easier....)

Again, thanks a ton. If your ever in my neck of the woods, lemme know, we'll hit the range.
