I was shooting a mini14 yesterday with steel cased ammo. Last round, the case stuck in the chamber (actually it came out about two millimeters) but the extractor went right through the back of the cartridge, and I have no idea how to get it out.
Please don't preach, I know that the forum both loves and hates steel cased ammo, but it's so cheap and this is the first time this has ever happened to me.
To make matters worse, I thought I could just knock it out with a cleaning rod, which is now stuck somehow also.
Finally, in Albemarle NC there are no gunsmiths to my knowledge. So that limits my options.

Thanks for any help you could offer.

They make case extraction tools, or you can do it the old fashion way and beat it out with a screw driver, just be aware you are likely to bugger up you gun some, as for the stuck rod, IDK, what the hell did you do to the poor gun, ARE YOU SURE you used a .22 rod and not a .30+ rod??

The .22 caliber cleaning rod, presumably aluminum, is probably stuck in the .224" case mouth, the case, well, it's glued into the chamber from the grime and case protective coating , more than likely....try heating the chamber area of the rifle with a blow dryer or heat gun, now, don't get the thing so hot you cannot touch it, and see if all comes loose!

Take it apart and throw it in the freezer, the casing should shrink before the barrel. Worked for me with a M1 Carbine, but that was with a brass casing.

Screw dent-puller into base of cartridge case.
You may have to modify dent puller shaft to fit receiver.

Pour ATF into bore.

Let sit for one hour.

Use slide-hammer to yank case out of chamber.

Throw Wolf ammo in deepest body of water you can find.

I just slam the buttstock on the ground. But my rifles are russian beasts.

Thank all of y'all for your help. The hair dryer worked, and a friend of mine has already asked for all of the left over wolf ammo. So they are his problem now. The things shot so well, it's a real shame they didn't work out.
Thanks again.

Chamber brushes are a must for steel ammo in .223. The steel doesnt expand as well as brass. This allows gas/carbon/crud to wash around the casing in the chamber. Essentially gunking it up faster. Keeping the chamber clean is of vital importance.

This is just my opinion and is worth what you paid for it.

Apparently, some rifles can shoot steel cased stuff and some can't. My ARs will run steel cased stuff over the course of a weekend (1K+ rounds) without a hitch.

If you're willing to try something else, many have had good luck with the Silver Bear ammo. It has some sort of zinc coating on it rather than laquer or polymer. Then again, .223 brass cased stuff is getting pretty cheap these days.
