I was at the local city range yesturday waiting for a lane to open up. One gentleman had a SS Kimber at the range with the Crimson Trace grips. I sat around and watched some of the shooters for a while. All was good, the noise of gun fire and the smell or burnt powder. Well the same guy with the 1911 decides to field strip his gun in the corner of his shooting booth. He sits down and proceeds to start the field stripping process. He removes the barrel bushing and sends his recoil spring plug flying across the range. Well alot of guys shoot CCI Blazer ammo at this range and it took him some time crawling around on his hands and knees looking for it.

He eventually found it under my friends range bag. Go figure. All the ROs and the few of us that were around got a good chuckle. What was this guy thinking!!! :banghead:

Well I guess this is pretty stupid on my part. In retrospect it was pretty funny.

There are three of us up at the range. The field is dry as there has been a dry spell. One of my friends is shooting bird bombs out of his shotgun. I don't know why but we indulge his peculiar shooting habits.

One shell goes low and sets the vegetation ablaze. I scream cease fire! Cease Fire!!! The flames are spereading out in a circular pattern from where the bird bomb had landed. I go runnning out and start stomping on the flames. I am wearing dockers and they come of so there I am in my stocking feet jumping on the flames.

The mad bird bomber comes running out with one of those office cooler bottles full of water. He is holding it close to his chest and water is splishing and splashing as he runs. As he about reached the flames he trips and sprawls over the bottle and into the flames. He is yelling and I have scorched feet. My friend picks up the water bottle and starts pouring water all over the pace including my feet. I am trying to get my dockers on through all this.

We get the fire out and turn to go back into the range house...
My friend who stayed in the range house is laughing so hard he can't stand up. I am a little annoyed and ask him what the hel he is laughing at? He holds up a fire extinguisher and proceeds to lose it altogether.

I guess to have really enjoyed it you would have had to have seen it. My wife gave me an odd look when she saw my socks and shoes!:D

The only way I think things could have been funnier is if guy #3 would have started lobbing bird bombs at you two during the whole fiasco!:D

I'm thinking of that right now and the visual is killing me!:D :D
Good Shooting

The first menatl picture I had was MUCH better. :neener:

I saw the bird bomb story on TFL long ago and nearly choked laughing, same here.

If you strip your 1911 by pushing the right side of the slide stop as you rack the slide, release slide, remove slide stop, pull slide and all off cupping spring that won't happen. Works on guide rod guns too. Fast.

My stupid moment? Ever go to the range and leave your 6.5jap ammo at home? Stupid gunshop had just run out. :banghead:

Went to the range once and forgotten the magazines for all of my pistols except the .22. Had ammo. As it happened, a friend of our showed up with his magazines, but had forgotten his ammo!
:banghead:

I launched the slide on a 220 sig once. (wasn't my gun but lucky no damage)I think I hung my head down to my knees.Wasn't a pleasent feeling. But that wasn't as funny as the bird bomb story.Priceless!

I consider it a great honor to be mentioned in the same sentence as the great weaver of tales. Thank you Sir!

But as Wayne and Garth have said in the past, "we're not worthy, we're not worthy"!:D

Different scenario but ...... remember years ago at my then club .... we shot at 25 yds, from a trench (ex mil range) ... a new guy was there ...... shooting with a 9mm auto IIRC .. he only leaves his firing point with gun in hand . slide closed, mag in place .... and calmly walks along behind people shooting to go do ...... something.

I was RO at time and near flipped ... he was hollered at and not invited back to join full time!! As it happened, his gun was empty, as was mag but ... he had let slide forward and with all the ''muzzle sweep'' he showed ... was effectively a bad accident able to happen!!

NOT the way to conduct oneself at a busy range!!
