Looking for a Fun, Accurate Rifle.

You can buy an AR15 in the $700 to $800 range. Please don't go to a gun show to buy one. My experience has been the prices are somewhat higher for a new AR, and sometimes you can't be sure what you will end up with. I am not sure what chain sporting goods stores are available in NY, but surely there are some good ones. After you purchase a rifle, you can upgrade the trigger group, get a matched barrel or upper, and all the other accessories when you get the money.
I am not sure if WalMart will order a rifle for you, but they may be a source. Different states have requirements that limit sales. Keep in mind you can buy a lower assy. Then, there are no laws I am aware of that prevent you from buying an upper and a bolt carrier assembly mail order. Shotgun News has many suppliers. If you were here in Indiana you could buy a lower for $250 and the sky is the limit for an upper of your choice.

The fun factor of an M 1 Carbine is hard to beat and it fits the budget for a shooter grade Inland, or etcetera!

OK, I've been convinced to buy an AR-15.

I bought a used AR-15 A2 for $699.00, could have bought a new one for $899.00 but I decided to save a little money.

I think I got a good deal considering I live in Lower NY. However, I believe I got ripped on my 30 rd. Mags. which I paid $24.00 ea. They were new and made in england, if that means anything. I saw some online for $14.00 but I can't have them shipped to NY

So, how did I do, and please advise on some Mods and scopes.

I'll post this as a new thread, and thanks for all the advise!

What is the brand of the AR? I believe you bought at a good price, depending on condition. The magazines could also be a good deal. We probably need more information on them.
If I understand you correctly, New York has a ban on some magazines. What is the law? I thought outside of New York City the law was different.
