hey guys, i tried a search, but it came up with nothing, so sorry if this is a common question.

i have been looking at getting into the 300 whisper for a while now, and i finally was going to jump on the band wagin, but i have recently lost my job, again, (tradesman) so i dont have the money to purchase the upper. or parts for that matter. my father has an upper for his ar, that has been in the safe for a long time, so i was thinkiing about tinkering with it. i have done a little research on sub-sonic loads for the x39, but everything i came up with was for a bolt gun. a couple questions for those who may know:

1. the upper is a colt hbar 7.62x39, i know the best way to know is to measure it, but does anyone know if these are .308 bores or .310, .311??

2. anyone have any info or load data for subsonic loads for the x39.

the one thing that i think that the x39 has over the 300 whisper is that i can use factory ammo if i run out of handloads, or just need some for plinking.

3. if the barrel is a .308 bore, can i still shoot .311 (surpluse) ammo through it? or factory, winchester or wolf?

4. what do you guys think? anyone have this delemma before.

thanks guys for the help and info. it is greatly appreciated. brian

#3: You can, however it will cause accelerated throat and bore erosion, and overall bad things will happen sooner.

Just be really careful about squibs/underloaded cartridges...somewhere on arfcom are pictures of the Whisper barrel some guy split apart by basically squibbing four rounds down the pipe. He had enough powder to cycle the bolt, but not enough to get the projectiles out of the barrel..
