subsonic sniper rounds by aguila

aguila makes a .22 rimfire round called the SUBSONIC SNIPER (oooooooo ) does anyone know if this stuff is worth it. its pretty heavy im guessing its a little tough on actions maybe? hows the accuracy? whats the word on other aguila ammo designs?

i bought a friend a box of aguila IQ rounds, the "smart round" they call it. havent fired'em yet thats why i ask.

I’ve used the SSS’s out of a .22lr revolver. As loud as a regular .22lr. Haven’t tried them yet with my .22lr pistol or .22lr rifle.

They are "okay"...nothing special. Did feed and extract in a 22/45, accuracy is ho hum. No problem out of a Model 18...

Loud...sounds like a Standard Velocity to me... Novel but no big deal.

The subsonic round is pretty much a low velocity round, or standard velocity-that is, under 1088 FPS, or Mach 1. If anything, they are going to be easier on a firearm than regular hi speed 22's.

They are quite accurate and feed very well in my Winchester 9422 XTR Classic. They don't stabilize in some guns, though (combination of low velocity and long, heavy bullet).

They are also expsensive for .22 ammo, so I suggest that you buy one 50 round box and try it in your gun before dropping ~$20 or more on a brick of 500.

They're fine in my Browning Buckmark and Hi-Standard Sentinel revolver (6" bbl). They keyhole bigtime out of my little Taurus PT-22 and my H&R 929 (2-1/2" bbl).

Accuracy from the Browning and the Hi-Standard is no better or worse than any other nonpremium .22.

They'll cycle my 10/22 reliably. Informal penetration tests (phone books) were pretty impressive - but done at fairly close ranges. I've generally found Agulia's ammuntion to be worth the price of admission. The Colibri rounds are tons of fun.

They cycled fine through my Beretta 21, and from a rifle they make a mess of a phone book. Pretty quiet from a bolt rifle, but not like CB caps or anything like that.

The Colibri's are fun in a semi-suburban setting as they are quieter than the bb gun that is hanging up in the garage. Granted, at over 50 feet, they will bounce off the cardboard box that is the target at roughly the same rate that the penetrate it. However, for subteenager fun they can't be beat .

The more potent Aquila rounds sound about the same as their more potent cousins as far as I can tell. They do work good though.

I'm hesitant to call it a "sniper" round as I would a target bullet. Semantics for sure but wasn't it originally made for target shooting?

The 60 gr. bullet needs an uncommonly fast rifling twist rate to stabilize consistently. Keyholed in all the .22's I tried it in. Good thing I didn't buy much of it.

It's fed in my semi autos without a hitch, and works well in suppressed guns too, very quiet.

I use them often in my 22/45 and Marlin 60. The extra weight makes them more forgiving with a low hit on the light steel targets the range uses. Never tried them past 25 yards. Groups run a little bigger than normal but still very usable. They are noticeably quieter than regular 22 ammo to my ear.
