Been using Aguila subsonic 1050 FPS for squirrels in my AO. What with Ammo being scarce bought some American eagle subsonic which is 970 FPS. Do you think there will be a noticeable difference in terminal ballistics? As far as accuracy they are fine no adj needed for accuracy but haven’t actually used for hunting yet! Ruger American 22” barrel with Nikon p22 on top.

Depends upon the distance at which you hit the squirrel, right? ;)

There is less than 8% difference in the speed of the round, so unless at the normal distance that you engage the target there is a distinct difference of the point of impact, I'd say no. They are both solid rounds so you've needed to be precise in where you strike the squirrel..., so as long as your new ammo is equally accurate or better, you should be fine. (Well at least from my experience, subsonic or even "standard" .22 LR with solid tips needed to be carefully aimed to take the bushy-tail, but supersonic HP's were much less finicky.) I think the accuracy is the deciding factor, not the muzzle velocity, but again at extreme range, MV could be a factor.

Thanks for your reply I usually shoot from a bipod where I live I handle this local parasite for all the neighborhood this used to be farmland and this AO was a pecan grove so there is a lot of work fortunately from the bipod I rarely miss my mark so with this in mind there shouldn’t be an issue thanks again for your reply
