Substitute Powder Question: Powder Burn Rate Tables

    I'm in the middle of a 300 SBR build (8.2" Noveske barrel which I'll suppress with a AAC 762 SDN can) and now my focus is on prepping cases and reloading subsonic rounds. I have everything that I need except the powder. I can't find what seems to be "the" powder to use which is A1680 (or H110 which I've also seen). My question, in general, is whether I can select and use a "comparable" powder based upon the various powder burn rate tables available.

    For example, I've noticed that H110 is #71 in burn rate (#1 being the fastest) and A1680 is #84. Could I choose a powder in the middle or around #84 and use that instead?

    I've been reloading centerfire and shotgun for years but have stuck to tables or proven recipes in the past and have never gone of the reservation.

    Just wondering as I happen to have Alliant 410 powder which is #79. Alliant is made specifically for 410 shotgun shells but I'm wondering....

    W-296/H-110, AA4100/Enforcer, AA 1680, AA #9, AA 5744, 2400, and N-110 can all be used in the .300 BLK, and I am sure there are others. It needs to be in that approximate burn speed and be dense enough to fit enough in the case.

    Maybe. Obviously powders with similar burn rates will exchange better than those widely seperated but burn rates aren't scientific law so I have no idea if your guessing will do what you want with the powders you mention. You need to know that burn rates between steps isn't linear; any two, three or six may overlap or there may be big holes between them. AND, the burn rates aren't written in stone, some powders will swap places depending on case size and the actual pressure.
