I'm am not trying to find out the best ways to safely keep a gun. I have a gun safe and no guns with internal locks(yet).

I have seen plenty of threads where people complain about the locks but none where anybody can talk about the positives, if any. If nobody has any then the thread will go by with very few responses.

I'd like to hear from forum members situations where they have used the lock on their revolver.

Again, not interested in people's negative concerns or complaints.

Thanks.

I used to use the lock on the hammer of a Taurus 85SSUL when I left it in my car. I don't leave it in my car anymore. It worked fine and disabled the revolver without being obtrusive or running the risk of disabling the gun permanently.

This is possibly the best and only reason I could ever think of for the lock, and frankly you can do the same thing with a normal non internal gun/trigger lock etc.

Simply put, all the other methods of securing a gun are just better, and not forced upon you in the way of a lock being put in the gun. Just offer a locking device inside the case of the firearm and you are good to go.

I don't care about the IL in smith's, I don't use it, I don't need it, and I just don't care that it's there. If you choose to use it, use it, but I would also still keep it in a safe of some sort.

One note, if you use it and the gun still has rounds in the cylinder (heck even if it is empty), treat it as a LOADED gun, safety devices can fail.

Oh and this thread is probably going to get locked again, so you should probably give the lock questions up...

This was closed twice because of a bias in the original posts and with some discussion I told the OP to repost this in this way. Please discuss only the possible uses or any potential use that you might see as a way to prevent or stop the misuse of your gun.

PLEASE do not use this to rant about a lock either looking ugly or prematurely engaging.

I get it. This thread is just for the people who use and ENJOY the lock. It will be interesting to see how many pages this thread generates.

Say, if you'd like a "nightstand gun" rather than an "In the safe" gun, and you have children? I don't have kids, nor am I in this circumstance, but it's just a thought.

I used the internal lock on my carry gun once. I was dating a girl who lived about three hours away. I went to visit her for the weekend, and one of the nights I was there we went out to a party. I knew I'd be drinking, so I chose not to carry. Since she didn't have a safe, using the ILS and putting the gun in a hard-to-reach place seemed like the best security I could muster for the weapon.
