Suggestions for a compact .40 S&W carry weapon

I'd just like some suggestions from folks as to which compact or sub-compact .40 caliber semi auto they prefer. I'm interested in a concealed carry weapon. All suggestions are welcome. I believe I know what's generally available, but sometimes I forget.

I'm not biased at all, but...

compact 23, sub 27? Glocks in .40 are nice. I shot a little pm40 once, wasn't too bad actually if can handle a pinky dangler (but it has an extension similar to the 27). xd has prolly caught up with glock too, with their new finish (ie tennifer-like); but I guess it boils down to your hand fit.
 
It is hard to go wrong with a Glock 27. I have one myself. The subcompact Springfield XD and the H&K P2000SK get positive reviews on the forums, but I have no experience with these. The H&K is considerably more expensive.
 
I carry an AMT Backup in 40 S&W. It is my "go to" gun most of the time. It is smaller than any mentioned here, but mine is easy to shoot well and is absolutely reliable. The AMT is nearly indentical to the Kahr PM40 in size, although I find the AMT is more "shootable" for me than the Kahr's I have owned, which are excellent guns, BTW.

If you like cocked and locked, or the option of DA/SA, look at the CZ75 Compact 40. All the quality of CZ in a 40 flavor. All steel, so recoil is not an issue.
 
Taurus PT-140 Pro

I'd recommend the taurus millenium pro 40, I've had an extremely good experience with mine, I'd put it up against guns that cost twice as much, it would hold its own. For under $400, I think its one of the nicest pistols out there.
 
While not the smallest .40 out there, the SIG 239 is hard to beat. I recently switched from a Glock 27 to the 239. The SIG seems to disappear in an IWB rig.
 
My personal favorite would be the EAA Witness Compact in ther Wonder Finish, carried in the Cocked and locked 1911 Method. It like the CZ line are less expensive and every bit as reliable as the higher priced Weapons.
 
I think you will end up with every .40 caliber pistol under the sun listed here.
I like my Kahr K40, but it is going on the for sale table to finance other things. It was a great CCW gun.
 
check out the Walther 99 compact

I think that it is called the 99QA, but don't quote me on that. I don't own one, but i have fired one and it suprised me. Ususally, small .40 tend to sting a bit, but this was nice to shoot and was very accurate. You may want to check it out. I had a Sig 239 in .40S&W, but it actualy hurt to shoot, so I traded it away. In hindsight, I should have just got a 9MM barrel.
 
Have you checked out the new Springfield Armory EMP? It looks pretty sweet! I'm not sure if they've hit the gun stores yet.
 
S&W M&P40 Compact should be coming out very soon now. I'd wait a bit and see if it is going to have teething problems, but ergonomically it will probably be a winner. It seems to share its trigger and handling characteristics with its big brother, and those are very good indeed.

Beretta 8040 Mini-Cougar. I love mine in DAO, but they make them in F versions as well. They're discontinued, but available. Be the only kid on your block with one. :) I like the Sig 239 as well, but it's bigger.
 
I would suggest trying to find a Steyr S40, but they're hard to find. They also seem to be a you love or you don't kind of gun.

AMT Backup

A second vote on the AMT Backup in .40 I just bought a "new" one of these gems and am very impressed. I put "new" in quotes since I understand that the company that made these pistols hasn't made any in years, so even though my pistol is new, its old. So far put a hundred rounds through it with no FTF or FTE. Small, but not too small. Not pocketable like a NAA Guardian (have one of those too) but will conceal nicely in a SOB holster. Quality appears excellent. Highly recommended if you can find one.
 
I've owned the Glock G23 and it is a great pistol, easily accurate enough and utterly reliable. But, it's a bit on the "fat" side.

I currently carry a Kahr K40 Covert and have been for about 3 years. As much as I liked the Glock there is really no comparison in the ability to conceal the weapons. The Kahr family of firearms is truly ahead of the pack in this respect. And they build a fine gun. Be advised however, that the Kahr triggers are completely different from the Glock, as they are DAO.
