I am looking for an AR in .308 that is a piston gun with ~1.5 MOA accuracy and is relatively light. I would like to keep it sub $2000. I have not found many such rifles.

It seems DPMS, Armalite, and similar builds are all heavy, and DI guns.

The Sig 716 looks tempting but I haven't hear much about it.

I am nearly ready to believe it doesn't exist, and am considering dropping an extra $400 to get the POF P308. It would take me nearly as much to build what I want from a $1200 gun.

Any other suggestions?

A piston platform well be heavier than it's DI sister, and it well take a accuracy hit.

The ArmaLite Infantry profile Carbine AR-10 is about the lightest you well find. This rifle should meet or beat your -1.5moa request.

The PWS MK216 is about the best piston AR out there by many accounts, but it exceeds $2000.

Thanks for the responses.

Firearms like POF's P308 are able to keep their piston .308 sub 9 pounds and maintain accuracy. I was just wondering if there were any others out there that were not quite so expensive.

"A used POF P-308 will do better than MOA, and I've seen them for around $2k if you take your time looking. "

I guess I just need to be patient.

TexasPatriot, you say that over and over again, even when it's bull. Armalite today has absolutely nothing to do with the original Armalite, other than the name. The .308 rifles they are building now are not compatible with the original AR-10s.

That's what I would do... Correction: that's what I did. Couldn't be happier with my POF. Snagged mine for $2150 and it was immaculate. Certainly worth the wait.

mr deckard, I shot original AR10s over 40 years ago in the military when Eugene Stoner was still in the project, I realize the change over the years, I currently own 4 Armalites in AR10, 2 in the A2 configuration and a Bushmaster BAR10, no matter what AR stands for Armalite, how many you got?

I do believe that's the entire point. Armalite owns the rights to AR-10, and even though the current incarnation is not the Fairchild Aircraft subsidiary it was when Stoner owned the rights, they are still the original, since they were the only game in town for .308 AR's until very recently.

The current SA is not the military armory that originally made the M14, but we still consider those from the current commercial SA to be the real thing. Same difference.

Remington Arms is about the only US firearms brand that never changed hands, and even they finally did 3 years ago.

And FYI, Armalite, inc. did, in fact, until recently, produce the original AR-10 model, except it didn't use the waffle magazines and had polymer furniture rather than Bakelite.

AR-10TBFN is in my safe. Great weapon, will consistantly hit sub-moa all day if I do my job.......But not piston driven.

I have several AR piston driven 5.56 and love them all. I will be in your shoes when the funds are there because I want a .308 piston AR as well.

From what I can see:
Sig 716 - Nice, read only good reviews, affordable, nice features.
POF - Nice rifle, good candidate, good reviews as well.
LWRC - REEPR is sa-weet! Pricey as all get out. I have a M6A2 in 5.56 and it is a fantastic firearm and well worth the money I paid (+2K).
Colt - New on the scene. Hard to find and I haven't read anything about them or seen any pricing.
PWS - I have nothing on them

I don't think an AR 7.62x51 piston rifle under 8 pounds exists. I believe the POF is the lightest of the ones mentioned above.
