Kalashnikov cranking up AK-47 factory in Florida

Kalashnikov USA started making AK-47's in PA, but now they are moving to Pompano Beach Florida where according to the article, they will be assembled. They plan to make a 30 round model and a 10 round model for restrictive states such as New York, Connecticut and Colorado.

"Kalashnikov USA has been approved by the city of Pompano Beach to assemble guns there. Kalashnikov USA of Tullytown, Pa., was importing rifles made by Kalashnikov Concern, the original AK-47 manufacturer in Moscow, until 2014 when President Obama imposed sanctions against Russia following its annexation of Crimea. At that point, Kalashnikov USA severed all ties with the Russian company."
.

The gun will now also be produced in Florida, a gun friendly state with relatively loose gun laws

How about a freedom loving state with owner friendly gun laws.
Yeah never happen on CNN.

"Severed all ties with the Russian company"

Who is making parts then? The press release says they will assemble guns not manufacture them.

With US-made barrels, and US-made receivers, hammers, triggers, sears, springs, stocks, and so on already easily available here, parts won't be a problem regardless of whether they produce some of their own or outsource many.

Yeah. The article is confusing. It says they have an import license. So does that mean they are going to import partially built AKs from some place like Romania or Bulgaria and do the final assembly here?

Tapco fire control parts, one of two or three receiver sources, furniture & so on from Arsenal, who knows?
Parts won't be hard to come by.

Doesn't have to have anything to do with Century.

That would be my guess.

So will these be like the Saiga rifles imported earlier (from the quality sense, not features (or lack thereof))?

If their reliability is later determined to be as good as Izhmash etc in Russia, then I could see buying one, especially if they produce a series chambered in .223, as with some from Atlantic Firearms.

Concerns with other chamberings (Not 7.62x39) so often seem to deal with the magazines or adapters.

Saigas are known to be extremely reliable. On a recent Fox News "Watter's World", he went with a python hunter into the Everglades. The hunter carried a Saiga semi-auto shotgun. Watters enjoyed blasting the swamp with it!
Such a shame that Saigas were banned from importation.
