This is the technological equivalent of UBC. In other words, a problematic solution in search of a problem.

No thanks, I'll pass.

"Triggersmart, founded by Irish entrepreneur Robert McNamara, also uses radio frequency technology to enable -- and disable -- guns. The chip that activates the gun can be placed in a ring, bracelet or potentially even embedded in the owner's hand.

Wow, that will go over well. You can tell they haven't the faintest clue about the so called "gun culture" when they say these kinds of things.

Oh ya, this is a technology I want to put my faith in when a meth addict breaks in at 3:00 AM. :uhoh:

You forgot the blue screen of death at the end ;)

Hmmm. Newer cars have a similar technology, allowing them to be disabled intentionally. No need for confiscation when your gun can be "bricked" with the push of a button.

Amazing what technology can do. It is almost like magic that it will be retroactive to all guns ever made.

Yeah, They may be able to put electronic stuff in a pistol to make it work for the correct person only...

And that might even be a good thing in a "Gun Grab" situation.

But give me just a little time and a few basic tools and I GUARANTEE It can be "Hacked" to work.

Think about it- Regardless of the gizmos installed it's still a machine. Remove a part or two, make a trigger link, or whatever...

And then it's on the street just like all the other guns.

This is just another "Feel Good" idea that will change nothing and can only serve to increase the cost of owning a gun.

So the home invader brings his smart phone with the appropriate app, disables your gun, then breaks into your house! :uhoh:

Funniest thing I have read on THR.

We have some nice toys to play with in the military. Red dot sights, night vision, IR lasers etc. These items are designed to be abused and mistreated and yet still break. Mechanical components of firearms wear down overtime and break. Why would I trust a circuit small enough to fit in a ring or grip to fire a weapon when I need it to when I have seen hardware designed to be air dropped break on a door frame?

With all of the modern automobiles being recalled for software or firmware glitches....the absolute last thing I need is a firearm which follows that same pattern. No thank you.
Why don't they just wrap us all in foam rubber, sedate us, and set us in front of a TV for our lifespan....we'll be safe then.

SERIOUSLY.....no one gets out of life alive anyway. I'd rather 'LIVE' than be coddled constantly for fear that I might die from living.

Yea, because their computers are so trouble free.

Not the first time someone has pushed some sort of "smart technology" for guns.

This was one of the factors that almost led to Colt's demise the last time it came up. I wonder how much money they wasted on "smart guns" (NON-working models trotted out on "Tales of the Gun") that could have been spent on modernizing their productive capacity and actually turning out an up to date semi-auto handgun that anyone would be willing to buy.

I HIGHLY doubt anybody else is going to head down that dead end just because some anti-gun ignoramus whose parents don't monitor his movie and TV watching says they ought to.

From the article:

Keane (Lawrence Keane, of the NSSF) isn't completely against personalized weapons, but he says the technology isn't reliable enough yet and could even make guns more dangerous.
"It can actually encourage people to leave loaded firearms accessible, relying upon the technology which can fail at the most inopportune time," he said.

^^This. Once we started wrapping people up in airbags, traction-control systems, anti-roll systems, and other "passive safety" equipment, use of effective and safe driving habits, and use of seatbelts, began to decline.

When you tell people you'll do their thinking for them, they'll let you.

What happens when that thief steals your watch, and your gun doesn't work?
Or when the gun needs a new battery?
Of course the gun will take a special battery that you will need a permit to purchase.
Or god forbid your gun gets wet.
There are so many things wrong with this idea.

Hello, 911, could you turn my gun on please?
What? Hold?
Ok.

as soon as this wonderful technology is adopted by my State Police i'm gonna get me one to.

after all, if its good enough for them, its certainly good enough for me.

Of coarse they could just put a card reader on the back of the grip, it would make updates so much faster.

No, the next state-level target will be banning entire calibers based on whether they were originally designed for "assault weapons. Outright ban on any semi-automatic firearm in .223 or 7.62x39, etc.

Not an new idea, Sig experimented with a model about 13 years ago with one that had to have a pin entered and it would be "unlocked" for 1/2 hour, 2 hours or 8 hours. If entered incorrectly three times the gun would lock and have to have a master code entered.
